Hoosiers A7

Anyone has tried this yet? Seems like the sizes are coming out very slowly. Saw the 295/30/18 is now available, does it have the same width as the 285/30/18 A6?

A tad better wear and dry traction over the previous generation. Roll out is slow but hopefully most sizes will be on shelf, or available by special order, this spring.

Neal, can you get tirerack to update the specs on the page for those 295 A7? If it's the same width as the 285 A6 it'd be something I'd want to try.

Tirerack still hasn't updated any info on the 295, but I ended up grabbing a set. This is a 295/30-18 A7 on an 18x10.5 vs my used 285/30-18 A6 on the same rim size. There's more tread on the A7, but overall the widths at the widest points of each tire are the same. You can see on the A6 near the bead where there's small print is about the same height as the A7 shoulder.

After putting these on for testing, the shoulders make the tire closer to the 285 R1-S width. On the 18x10.5 the A6s were slightly stretched so the tire tucked better. Now it sticks out a little.

Thanks. Completely forgot about this thread.

I am still confused, and maybe TireRack has the wrong info.

285/30/18 A6 - Section width 11.5 and Tread width 10.9
295/30/18 A7 - Section width 11.6 and Tread width 10.8

Both mounted on 10" wheel......so that tells me they are more or less the same size.

Based on your picture and 1st hand experience, can I assume 275/35/18 A7 is closer to the 285/30/18 A6?

I tried BFG R1-S in the 275/35/18 size, and it was at least half an inch wider than the 285 A6 and I had to return them because I couldn't run them. Also, the 275 is a bit taller too, so doesn't help with clearance when the wheels are turned.

I asked around on this and was told,

Section width and tread width on Hoosiers is published by them, so that’s what we show. Hoosier has a history of sometimes tailoring dimensions in a given size, so don’t be surprised if the size listed doesn’t align with the actual physical size.

Even the 285 and 295 A6 had the same section and tread widths. I'd speculate that it's because the 285/30 A6 is/was one of the most popular sizes, so it was made on the "wider" end of the 285 scale, whereas the 295 is on the "narrower" end of the 295 scale. Just my guess.
