drive shaft problem

The first 2 shafts are fine, the 3rd shaft has the big bushing in it and its blown out.

I have some play in the shaft any ideas?

I'd suggest searching for a used one. Mitsubishi offers only entire driveshafts - expensive. If memory serves, you could get parts for that joint for a DSM. That was a long time ago but maybe worth checking into. I couldn't tell you if they are even the same. They look the same.

I saw them on ebay. But it looks like the rubber is blown out on the 3rd joint on every driveshaft. So i guess my question is that a normal problem? If it is how can I know if that shaft has play? Mine does have play between the 2nd shaft and the 3rd. I think it causes a clunk while shifting

The FSM states, "Be careful not to bend the joint portion when removing the propeller shaft because this will damage to (sic) the joint boot. Insert a rag so as to avoid boot damage, and remove the propeller shaft assembly in a straight and level manner."

Well, I think nobody knows this. Bend the drive shaft too far at the joint and you have a cut boot. I have a jig I use which clamps onto the drive shaft and holds it straight for removal.
