Urgent - rotors
Hi all,
I measured my rotors today and found they were just under the minimum spec! I didn't realize so now need to change them. The problem is that I'm doing a 400 mile trip to LA tomorrow night so have to somehow source the discs by tomorrow afternoon at the latest (I'm near San Jose, CA).
I wanted to use something like the Centric 125-46064 high carbon blanks.
Does anyone know where we can get good blank rotors at short notice? They have to be able to survive a few track days at least (in case "short notice" equates to "lower quality"!)
Thanks for any help!

Nope. It's the "do not machine below this" spec.
They are pretty thin, and replace them as soon as you reasonably can - certainly before a track day - but they should be fine for normal DD use for another week.
For some silly reason, Amazon won't do same day delivery on these.

Thanks for all the comments guys - I have two track dates in Dec so will need to change them out, but I guess it's not as urgent.
However, I looked around and found that Pepboys, Autozone and O'Reillys all have blanks that are designed for our fitment (320mm and 300mm, vented, blanks, "OE style"), and I can get them tomorrow. I know that Centric blanks are pretty well regarded as a track capable disc (not as light as a two piece, or as good at heat dissipation, but good and inexpensive to replace often). Since Centric are basically "OE style" rotors too, does anyone have any comments on how something like a Pepboys in-house brand (ProStop) blank ranks versus a Centric blank (which are priced almost exactly the same)? On the face of it I'd guess they are very similar, but after extensive searching I can't find any info on this.
I know there is a common "don't use auto store parts" mentality, but I also know that more expensive doesn't always mean better (like cross drilled and slotted are usually a downgrade unless properly cast and not actually drilled - and "uber expensive" as smike says
).
The discs will be used with new EBC Yellow Stuff pads and RBF600/660 fluid.
My goals are:
#1 - safety
#2 - fade resistance (more a function of the pads)
#3 - will last at least 4-5 hard track days (Laguna is hard on brakes) and some DD
#4 - won't crack or warp
#5 - safety
My research led me to believe that Centric blanks will check those boxes, but will the over the counter ones too?
I'd rather replace them now if they are up to spec, but as a last resort can wait.
Thanks!

I always buy Brembo blanks because I beat the crap out of my brakes and need to trust the brand. I know they work.
If there is a cheaper but equal alternative, I'm all for it.
The only way I would use parts store rotors is to have a set of cheap pads and rotors to swap on during the off season. That way I wouldn't have to choose between bedding in pads or dealing with howling brakes while driving around town.
But if you are buying one set for daily and track duty? I couldn't recommend stuff from a parts store.

Does anyone know who makes Napa's rotors? Their line of oil filter are made by Wix and their belts are made by gates. Maybe Centric makes their rotors? The ultra premium line could be Centric's high carbons?
NAPA have them too... I'm interested to know more about the ultra premium line too. My local store has the front ultra premium and the rear are Bosch.. The fronts aren't cheap at $115 each - curious to know if anyone knows who makes them.
There are so many conflicting opinions on rotors - and I think for the most part people go with brand name or expensive rotors for peace of mind, not scientific fact. In reality most of these rotors are probably made in the same factory some where (in China), and if you look at other racers (eg Miata racing series stuff), they use auto store blanks all the time and track the heck out of them. They replace them more often (sometimes on warranty if they can!), but they invest the real money in the pads (and I am using the excellent EBC Yellow Stuff, so that should be fine).
Thanks again for the replies - I would welcome more opinions
Thanks!

What are the part numbers?
btw, I used Centric Premium on track for years with my Evo 8 with no problems, actually worked better then higher cost rotors I had used. Going to be using them on my 10 as well.
You can find the front 125.46076's for about $75/each on Amazon.
Here is a handy list for centric/stoptech:
Evo 10 centric/stoptech rotors:
Front:
125.46076 Centric Premium High Carbon Rotor (Solid)
126.46076 Centric Premium High Carbon Rotor (Slotted) - Add L or R in part number for sides

128.46076 Centric Premium High Carbon Rotor (Drilled) - Add L or R in part number for sides
121.46076 Centric C-Tek Standard Rotor (Solid)

Thanks guys - I ended up going with NAPA Ultra Premium rotors (part # UP 880193) with EBC Yellow Stuff pads on the front. I left the rear for now - I will get those done after my trip. I did buy the Bosch QuietCast for the rear, and might use them - I'll examine them closer when I get home. As long as they meet OEM spec, I'm going to guess that they will be fine.
Once I've bedded the EBC's in (which takes forever following their recommendations!!) I'll report back if I had any issues.
Thanks!
