Espelir ASD Springs

I got these springs thinking it would be the 3/4 inch drop listed in the spring rate thread, and after talking to the vendor they said the same thing. Well I get them on the car last night and they are WAY more than 3/4 drop. Closer to 1 1/2 inch in front.

I have not gotten it aligned yet, so I am not driving any more than is necessary. So far the ride feels comparable to stock. The springs look to be progressive rate springs rather than linear based on coil spacing, and I think that is helping the ride.

The drop looks nice, but since the car has not settled fully yet, I am worried that it may end up being too much. I do know that the drop did skew my camber pretty far, which will in turn change toe settings. That is why I can not speak to the real feel of the springs until I get that corrected and can drive it a bit harder.

My driveway is pretty much a cliff, and my eclispe was lowered to the point that it scraped everytime I pulled out. I am worrying now that these spring, which i am sure will help with autox (lower roll center and higher spring rates), will settle to a point that is too low to get in and out of my driveway without that ugly scraping.

I guess I am reserving final judgement until after I get aligned and things settle a bit, but be aware that the drop seemed to me to be lower than I was told.

So you hate to tell me that it looks like 3/4" to you and I am telling you it measures as more than that without the springs having fully settled.

Kyperion that drop looks good. It looks more balanced than the s-tech's or tanabe's. They drop the front way to low and leave the rear too high.

it is nto a matter of the looks of the drop, it is that it is a lot lower than I was lead to believe. I have a curbed driveway, and was hoping to be able to lower things, without making it so that I scrape everytime I go into that driveway. The reason that I started this thread, was to see if I was the only one who was experiencing this issue, or if others with espelir springs also had the same.

I just want others who are getting these springs because they believe the drop will only be 3/4" to be aware that that estimate looks to be off.

Wink a little late for me

I bought them for that exact reason - I am going with 8.5x18" w/245x40x18 tires and wanted the least amount of drop from a spring.

Well, we'll see - I am getting everything installed Monday; I'll post pictures of the drop and Black TE37's on an Apex Silver

wow, black on silver, should be pretty cool....

Back to the Topic.... I was really asfter the spring rate increase more than anything.... I aligned the car yesterday to near stock specs.... drives fairly well now.... it feels flatter in corners, I have numbers from my Gtech from before I gotta see if its better now.....

OK, I'm back from the business trip and after a couple of days of easy driving, i am reporting the following. AS always this is just my opinion.

These springs ride better than stock on asphalt, and you hardly notice the higher spring rate until you so domething serious in a transitional state (really fast lane change, or slalom type of manuever). There is less body roll, and the lower roll center of the car now, helps with neutralizing some of the inherant understeer.

On cement interstate, the expansion joints can definately be felt more than with stock springs, but the dampinging on the struts does not seem to be inducing any pogo'ing. On a long trip the stiffer springs might be tiresome if you are only running on cement.

On the highway, I can not comment on the stiffer rate contributing to any tramlining or other issues until I get it aligned again on Thursday. The drop has settled in at about 1.25-1.50 inches lower than stock. That is almost double what was advertised and promised from the vendor. Even with the drop, I am not having too many problems with driveways, though I do now have to be watchful of parking blocks.

My first AutoX with these may be this weekend (depending on what my wife says, since it is on mothersday). The alignment with the lowering spring will allow you to pull in as much negative camber as you should want (the outside 3/4inch of tire on the rear before the alignement is now not touching the ground at all). I am going to go with -1.90 on the front, and -1.50 on the rear wiht 1/32" toe in on front and rear. This is a good starting point that will have to be played with a bit after running it hard a couple of times to see how it likes the changes.

All in all I am happy with the springs so far, but am disappointed that the drop is so much lower than I wanted. Winters here we get snow, and with the extra 3/4 inch over what I was expecting these springs might prove problematic.

I will report more after this weekend when I can see how the higher rate springs do when pushed.
