Which Tire is Best for EVO?
I'm getting ready to replace the stock tires on my EVO. I've pretty much narrowed it down to 3 choices: Kumho ECSTA Supra 712, Hankook Ventus K104, and Sumitomo HTRZ II. I have no experience with any of these. I don't track my car, but do drive spirited on occasion. Any input will be greatly appreciated.
I dont know much about the tires you listed but Ive had really good luck with the bridgestone S03s on my street rims. Theyre a little pricey but have proven to be great on the road, grippy, responsive and last a decent length of time.

I really like the Yoko AVS ES100 as a cheap High performance summer tire. Good wear, good dry grip, very good wet grip, terrible in snow, relatively quiet and low noise for a high perf tire.
Whatever you decide on, buy from TireRack. They support this board and they support SCCA autocrossing. And, no, I do not work for them.

Alan
all of your choices suck... please don't put crap tires on your car. If you're looking to save a little money then perhaps Yoko AVS would be a good compromise (obviously the stock tires which were custom designed for an evo are best)
Couldn't comment on Hankook since we don't carry them..however... The 712 and HTR Z-II do compete against each other and the Yokohama ES100. All of these tires are very similar in performance. They will be a step down in performance, but a step up in practicality.
The ES100 would be the better of the three in dry and wet traction. Lots of people have had this tire and really like it. The Kumho is a very close second place, and the Sumi brings up the rear. You cant go wrong with any of them.
Thanks for the compliment 00R101

I recently got the BFGoodrich KDW in stock size as a replacement. Very good tires compared to the ones you mentioned. Definitely not as sticky as stock, but very good overall and just as good or better in the wet(just drove through storms in Texas). Also, they're alot less noisy, but that doesn't mater to me. The best prize I could find was at Costco. $600 with everything included and free lifetime rotation and road hazard fixes. They aslo didn't over torque, like when I took it to the dealership for the Pit Pass.

I was looking around on the tirerack.... the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S model costs less than the Kumho MX and has much better ratings in Dry and Wet weather.... dont have any personal experience with them, but could be an alterantive to the others....
They are both really good tires, however, they are two completely different tires. The Kumho is an Ultra High Performance Summer tire and the Pirelli an Ultra High Performance All Season tire. The reviews may be similar but you really cant compare the two classes against each other. The ratings are given against tires in their own class.
STop the Press!!!!
IF you want a really good tire that great in the dry and wet and get ya thruogh some mild winters. Forget the Kumhos, and dont even think about the Hankooks its one of the worst tires that you could put on a high performance car...a complete piece of crap. SO-3 are good but pricy and the the Perelli P Zero Neros are better. Dont waste your time with the ES 100. The KDW are Good but the Neros are still better. There is a new BFgoodrich tire out now just don't know the name of it, might be worth looking into. So the tire you should get.... The best all around tire that I found for the Evo is the Offcial tire of the Speed world Challenge. I find it grips better than the SO-3 or the Neros or the KDWs. It 's the Toyo T1-S! Try it out on the stock rim at 245/ 40 size. I love it, it's as if I never changed the tires, they are sticky and are progressive in the way they lose traction unlike the stockers. They also have a stiff sidewall so you dont lose steering feel. Try em you wont be disappointed.

Thanks for the input guys. After all this, I talked with Neal at Tire Rack, and decided to go with the Fuzion ZRi's. They seem better than my other choices, and are better for my use, than the es100's. I'll give you a review on them in a week or so once they get broken in.

No problem. Where did you get the killer deal?
I thought about getting a size wider, but was afraid that I'd give up steering response. Now after getting the tires, I'm now curious if it would have been bad at all. I'm really happy thus far with these in OE size.
