Toyo T1-S vs Kumho MX
The Toyo T1-S definitely has a softer sidewall than the Advan's but that's not necessarily a bad thing. These tires are wonderfully progressive at the limit and won't bite you in the butt once you get there. Very communicative. My problem with some of the really stiff sidewall tires is that at the limit, they can get a bit digital on you. That is, tons of grip and then...nothing and tank slapper situation. The Toyo's also have decent treadlife as well. You can increase your turn-in by upping the pressures. Max pressure is 50psi I believe, so you have some more room to play. I usually ran 38f/36r on my WRX for the street and bumped the pressures up a couple of pounds for trackdays. And don't forget, the T1-S, shaved was used on the Gemballa Porsche when they ran the quickest lap time at the Nürburgring a couple of years ago. Plus, its one of the lightest tires out there for reduced rotational mass. Also a good thing. Anyway, you really can't forget that the Advan's and the STi's RE070's are much closer to an R-compound than most max performance tires out there.

Well here is my experience from Willow Spring. First off, the T1-S is 1 ply, I thought they were two. However, despite the soft sidewall, I really did not notice it at the track. The grip is very good and Arnie summed it just right, you can feel the limits of the tire before they break traction and it is progressive. Summed up, great grip and very predicatable. The grip felt pretty much consistent through 10-11 laps. I was running 42 in the front and 41 in the back hot. I believe the max psi is 44. The T1-S is a lot sticker than I thought they were and would definitely recommend them for the track.
That's great sophis! And they stay sticky when warm! They are 1 ply? Hmm, thought they were 2-ply. Anyway, if you eventually start doing more trackdays that warrant an R-compound, the Toyo RA-1 is a great tire. Its does not have the outright grip as a Hoosier but these tires will last and they are very resistant to heat cycling. Just a great tire to learn on for trackdays. Same progressive nature but much more grip.
The MX's aren't bad, the only thing I don't like is the sidewall seems to be soft and prone to rollover. The wear good and cost a lot less than the competitors. I'm probably going to go with 245 Falkens next time, they cost even less and have firm sidewalls (or so I hear). RA1's won't be safe in cold weather or even in the rain if their worn well.

I just ordered some T1-s's today from edgeracing.com!! Man these guys are great I order in the morning and had a tracking number by the time they closed. I cant wait to install these my stock advans have 16K miles on them and they are scaring me in anything but dry dry dry pavment. Cant wait to give a review but I'm sure I will love them

and here's the successor to the T1-S'...
the T1-S' are great tires for sure... used them on many of my cars for some time, and will sing praises for them for sure... but, they're not as stiff as the Advans, slightly less though... if you need a good tire to last you some miles that performs well in any condition, they're you're choice i believe if you don't like shelling out the cash for the Advans more often than you would with the Toyo's...
off the topic, so, maybe i understood being behind a lil' from other countries on cars, like the wait for the evo, but come on... Tires (tyres for you brits)??? Toyo, just bring them over already geez...

just when i was gonna say i was gonna call... hehe...
the thing with the 888's from what my friend's over-yawnder say is this... they suck in the rain... i could see why... hehe... but, morning damp and dry track conditions, none better in the class...
the T1-R's "plus 2 stiffer side walls" "plus 1 predictive-grip threshold" "plus 2 wet traction" as compared to the T1-S'... that's how they describe stuff there i suppose... they could've just told me they were better... heh...
