Quote: But i've seen all sorts of coilovers and rode in all that i have seen. From Tein's SS-Super RA's in all assortment of spring rates, JIC's FL1-FLTA2's, HKS Hipermax II and Comfort Edition, Kei Office, Ohlins, Zeal's, i would once again put my money, my life on Zeal units. They are absolutely the best build quality, best quality of material and best matched units for the money. Though they are quite pricey, you get what you pay for, and in this case you get more than what you pay for. The spring perches absolutely just zip on the threads, all the mounting points are exact to spec and no play. The shock damper's are hard to break the seal (with a proper break in), best ride i have every been.

ZEAL ZEAL ZEAL.
Agreed.

This is the Moton race shocks right? Is the Club Sport available for Evo?
I wonder how the Moton CS compare to the Ohlins Road & Track (for a autox &
street car). How about the KW doubles?

Quote: Moton's are truly amazing units, and almost the entire system is custom built including the sleeves to make it fit to most cars. However, it is very expensive; starting around $5K and going towards $16K. If you are not competing on the track, you probably do not need it; but they are worth their price

These is NO comparison between the two. The Motons clubsports are a true 2 way damper. The Ohlins is a street, sometimes trackk day coilover that was intended for light duty.

When I walk thru a Speed World Challenge paddock or Pits,.I see Motons, Bilstein, etc. What I dont see are the lower end Ohlins and or KW. Dampers are like everything else, you get what you pay for.

in case people are wondering... john at rre is now using buddyclubs, custom spec of course instead of jic. i think the suspension is less of an issue... i think the tuning is more... suspensions are bought so they can have a high degree of tuning and john's are made custom spec and then you get the custom tune, however you want 'em, as in daily driver, autocross, road race, rally, etc.

I guess we have to specify what we consider to be a priority when looking for "Best Track Coilovers". Some of us might be willing to get some at a lower price if the coilovers offers some good adjustability while others are looking for the best enginered valve design with high and low speed adjustments which transulates into faster reacting shocks. Then we have to consider, realistically just how much of the coilovers abilities can we exploite. If we go all the way with the best, then we have to get nitrogen to fill our tires instead of air. and etc.. So the question remains just how far are we willing to go?? With my other car i went with a good set up and now i feel that i'm ready for much more adjustablity and faster reacting shocks, and i do plan on going all the way and fine tuning alignment and tire presures. Once you get to a certain level, the more money you spend on suspension will still yell increase perfoemace but the cost will then go up exponentally when compared to the increased performance. So how do the rest of you define "Best Track Coilovers"??

It depends on usage. Some of the pro teams rebuild every 3-4 races, while others every season. For the weekend track go-er...a rebuild every 18 months isnt a bad deal, but that depends on how you are using them. Yes in the states they are rebuilt, turn around time is 5 business days, and 125.00 per corner. I drove a Gt3 with the new 4 ways and WOW !! Thats all I can say. But then again, for the price it oughta' make ya breakfast the next day !!!

My .02 to follow... Stop now or you could be offended....

A thing to go by when buying a coilover setup is what the core competency is of the company selling them. Would you buy a turbo kit for Nike? A hamburger from Moton? HKS sells everything from turbo kits to gauges, to suspension, as does Cusco, etc... I've personally had two JIC's fail within two thousand miles, so buyer beware. Overall build quality was crap. I suspect all these so called high end products are crap in comparison to the names listed below. There I've said it! They might be fine for cruising on the street, but are not made for racing.

JRZ sells one thing, as does Moton, Proflex, Bilstein, Ohlins and DMS. It's not an accident that every major racing team from formula one, to SCCA are on one of these. Can they fail, sure, but on average these are much higher performance and quality. RRE sells all kinds of different suspensions, but if you ask John for the absolute best track package, you'll end up on Ohlins...

FYI
Protrac, JRZ, and Moton are all identical for our purposes. They started out with the same engineers. Protrac owns JRZ. Yes there are differences, but they are very small.

If we are counting votes here, I've never tried some of the ones listed, but I can say assuredly that JIC's are not spectacular on the track nor on the street. Ive gone through 7 shocks for the 4 corners. Quality is not there.
