Evo 10 - who stole my torque?

2008 Evo 10

Mods:

AEM Intake
HKS IC pipes
AMS FMIC
Custom TBE twin mufflers
GST Boost Assembly
GST Custom flash

This 10 came in to get baseline pulls with a "piggyback" tuning system on it to see what it would make. Owner wasn't very happy with the output and drivability so he wanted to take the piggyback off and get retuned via a flash. (A great opportunity for more flash testing)

Huge gains in torque and area under the curve after. Before, somebody stole the torque and after we gave it all back and then some.

Also running much safer now with the reflash. AFR's with the piggyback where 12-13AFR on 91 octane pump gas. AFR's with reflash are now low 11's. Less ignition timing overall as well. Up top it is running approx 8* less.

+85 wtq at 3500 rpm
+50 whp at 5200 rpm

That's an insane amount of power gained under the curve! How much boost?

Before and after both used ECU-controlled boost. Before was 20psi peak and after was 25psi peak.

The piggyback did not have direct control of the factory boost control system so it was at the mercy of the stock mapping and some bleeder pill trickery.

Mivec changes also contributed a ton to the torque and area under the curve gains, another thing the piggyback had no control over.

Ditto and what did you use to flash it?

Thread cleaned. Supporters of GST, please be nice and not antagonistic. Vendors who aren't GST Motorsports, please stay out of this thread.

And let's keep this piggyback unnamed as it has been and not bash other's products. We don't need any more drama. Lets sell on benefits and tuning, not by slamming other choices out there.

Great results, GST!

Great Job! It's hard to beat a custom tune with a plug and play piggy back. Nice gains!

So piggybacks "bad" and flashes "good" for the X? Nice results

I want to gave a shout out to the GST Team, great group of guys that knows their stuff.
very customer focus in making sure the customer is pleased with the results.
Bryan is Tops, excellent tuner that will not quit until it's right, thanks for finding my stolen torque. the car is running great with no codes (CEL) and way more responsive than before.
Again thanks guys for your help and service.

Ha! That hyped up piggyback aint so hot when it's on a real dyno. Maybe it just needs an MBC? I'm not going to get into name calling because we all know what piggyback it was; it should be obvious because there is only one out for the X right now. In any case, this is the test that I was trying to get done way back when before my thread was unfairly shut down, so I am happy that the truth was finally revealed. Now granted, custom maps will always yield a little better results compared to an off the shelf map, the differences here are so great that it should flat out put to rest the question of whether a piggyback or a reflash is better. Great job GST! You guys kick ***!
