solutions for aftermarket head units?

i have yet to hear any of the upgraded stereos for myself, but i currently have a full alpine system i will be taking out of my 05 wrx and putting in whatever i get next. i see that the headunit is sorta "integrated" in the dash. what sort of PITA is it gonna be to put in an aftermarket h/u? will there be any dash pieces put out that allow for proper fitment?

None yet that I know of, you can either have a local shop custom fab one up or wait for the market to create one.

I would personally find a respectable shop to do one for me.

This site doesn't have any yet. It should be the same as the base lancer when it comes out though. You should also check out crutchfield.com.
The only problem I can see (which will happen to me too) is that the din will most likely be double. So the deck might fit weird & have a space underneath it. If you want boost gauges, that would probably be a good place to put them. I'm probably going to have to go the custom route, unless it's too expensive. I just can't wait & I myself would have an issue w/the pocket.

I would assume a lot of double din's would fit considering it can come with the nav headunit stock. At least I'm hoping

Should, the aftermarket set up has a slot for a single din head unit & a pocket for above or below. I would assume you could just insert a harness for a double din, since there is space for it.

I'd prolly just put in a nice touch screen dvd/nav and call it a day. That sound system is good enough!

You may be able to fit an aftermarket DIN with the stock Navi dash piece, check this thread out, it shows the part # for what I am talking about.

Just grab the aftermarket radio bezel and plate from your local dealer for a new GTS (or whatever the non-evo's are called). Buddy has one, looks perfect, has an avic installed.

Could you also comment on the color matching between the dash & head unit enclosure? This might be a deal breaker for me & I might have to go custom, if it noticeably doesn't match. Thanks
