Harddrive

Does anyone know if it is possible, and if possible, how to swap out this 30gb harddrive with a larger one. All with the X Nav we need to figure this out!

So, do those of you w/navi & 30GB HD only really have about 2GB of music storage, since the navi takes up so much space?

In the brochure it states that there is 6gb available for the music server function. I'm not sure if you'll be able to add more space (than the 30gb) since the software and navigation maps are saved in that 30gb...would have to find a way to transfer the data to a bigger drive. Sounds like more of a headache than anything.

Where there's a will there is a way.

If you don't need the drive for a bit, you could figure out a way to pull it, ghost it onto your computer and do a bit of research on transferring data onto a larger drive. (I know it's possible, I just haven't looked into it at all). I think you just ghost it onto the larger drive, shouldn't pose too much of an issue...

It should be be partitioned for "Navigation" and "Music", so keeping the Nav partition the same, look at what partition contains your tunes, then make that partition larger on the bigger harddrive.

Give me a shout if/when you get a Nav if you have questions. I'm new to the performance car world, but am most certainly not new when it comes to computer issues. You live close enough to actually physically do something about it anyway.

Good luck with the new evo! (Loving the PB)

I belive there is only 6gb of useable hard drive. But thats 6gb. why the hell do you need so much memory for. 6gb is a lot. thats over 600 songs. why the hell would you want more than 600 songs for??? you end up skipping half the songs becasue they just get old.
I dont understand why people waste their money and buy 80gb ipods. honestly what do you put in them damn ipods that would take up 80gb.

To each his own. I personally like to have all my music at my fingertips.
I have a pretty wide variety of music that I listen to which equates to a very large music collection. That is the key is to have variety available. As drives get bigger people get less conservative. If you are really into sound quality and clarity then you want no compression so the bigger the drive the more uncompressed, full quality audio you can put on it.

The reason I, and others like me, like to have a lot of space for music is so that you have options. I'm not really sure how having more songs will end up with the user skipping songs because they got old? Wouldn't having more space prevent this, since you can then select a completely different style of music that you aren't "bored" of?

By having much more space than I have music, I can make sure that all my music is available, without having to pick what I want to load on the drive. And junction already put forward the quality point. If you want CD quality songs in your car, you won't be fitting as much as if you had compressed them in a lossy format.

Summary - Some people are ok with choosing portions of their music collection to load onto the hard drive. I am not.

Thought GSR doesn't have MCCS option?
