iPod Suggestions

I have no desire to change the head unit. I have the Aux inputs on the car (SSS Package) and I am debating picking up a Harmon/Kardon Drive + Play
http://www.harmankardon.com/product_...%201US&sType=C

I had one in my last car and it worked great.

My concern is wear do I put the screen and control knob - i like the clean look of the top of the dash, so that is out. I am considering putting it right on top of the ashtray (in front of the Aux input jacks) but i wanted to get some feedback.

The alternative is to just get a charger and cord, but I like the more permanent install / clean look. Of course, keeping the car neat and clean with the cord idea just means throwing it all in the glove box when i am not using it / out of the car.

I am very indecisive on this and some criticism and suggestions is more than welcome.

lol i have had the harmon and kardon drive and play on my lancer RA and loved it. I too got the navi and aux input on my evo and like it that way. I wanted the clean look as well. What i did is take all my music and put it onto the music server so no need of ipod. But i keep the ipod for other reason and i can put movies on it and play it thought the aux. I miss haveing the nice interface, but like the clean look better.

Hey, can you describe how you put the music on the HD and what the end results are like? Thanks a lot!

I don't have the nav package, I just upgraded to the the rockford system, so unfortunately I cant just dump my ipod to an HDD.

I don't know, the more i think about, the more I think i should just migrate into the nav system or maybe go aftermarket, but its one of things that I hadn't planned on. I am too old to want a loud system.

is it actually an interface that you can control the iPod through the screen or just a mini in?

I think its just a mini-in (tho its mini out of of the Ipod and stereo into the car). Regardless, I found my next true love in the Pioneer AVIC F which i plan to pick up and install next month, which solves all of my problems.

Thanks for the input tho!

Did you get track names or anything? Does it accept DVDs for songs?

currently it doesnt accept DVDs with MP3s, you can have about 160s songs on 1 CD. it will only record from standard CD formats and it will not keep any titles unless its an original CD. it will copy the song but you will have to go back and redo the titles if you burn your own CD with different songs. man I hope some one figures out how to put mp3s directly on the HDD.

hardwired ipod integration

I went to the dealer and they told me that they can hardwire the cable so that there is full ipod integration. When i picked it up the only thing that i got was a hardwired RCA cable that had major feedback on the AUX setting. I want to be able to plug and charge my ipod and have full functionality on the navi screen to access playlists, songs etc. does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work

I would like to see my Ipod menus on the MMCS also!

This is what I 'm using with good results so far.
I picked up an accessory pack manufactured by GRIFFIN from the Apple store. It included:
(1) Wall power plug
(1) Cigarette lighter power plug
(1) A 6' connection cable that has a standard USB power connector (plugs into the power plugs), the standard base connection for the Ipod , and audio and video RCA connectors.
If I remember correctly It was around 50 bucks.
Pros and Cons:
The set-up allows me to play both audio and video on the MMCS, however, since I'm using the "Aux in" no video displays while driving.
It also keeps my Ipod fully charged.
The cord is 6' long so I can hand the Ipod to someone in the rear seat for song selections, but 6' of cord can be a bit messy looking.
All of the components are white.
At very high volume levels I detect a slight alternator whine through the Aux interface when using this set-up and cigarette lighter power, I plan to address this, hopefully, with a simple filter on the cigarette lighter power lead.
I have not been able to get the Ipod menus to display, I'm still looking into getting that to work.
