in-dash vs. flip-out

everyone is switching out their stock dash systems and such and just wondering what would be best. I haven't picked up my evo yet, but am wondering if a flip-out is odd in the dash..looks wise?, if not I was thinking where I would put gauges. If I put the flipout on top and the gauges at the bottom of the double-din with a custom pod or something, or if the in-dash is the way to go with the looks..? and then gauges on top of the dash, or the steering column. suggestionss...?

Yea i never liked the look of flip out screens. I got an Alpine in dash screen in my last car and will probably do the same for the EVO.

Although a double din in dash does look "cleaner", I differ from the consensus in my tastes(and i like to be unique) so my plan is to use the Carbon Fiber Coltspeed 3 gauge pod center console and get an in-dash single din flip out specifically for use as a touchscreen for a carPC.

I'll take some pics tomorrow. I've been meaning to get around to it. I just have spacers in the place of where my gauges will go. I haven't ordered (probably won't for a while) them yet, so you'll just have to work with me

I like the in-dash look, but my flip-out allows me to have gauges in the centre console.

(Mine is set up for gauges on top, flip-out on bottom. I didn't want the screen to be way the hell up when it was open.)

Ok. I promised pictures, so I snapped a couple quick ones down in the parkade. Sorry for flash, bad photos, etc.

I put in some sweet paper inserts to illustrate how the gauges will look. The "boost" is 3/4 visible when the screen is open.

I bought the orbital prestige din kit from 201 motorsports on here. It's the best looking kit I've seen so far!

Well, I'm not going to be much help for you. I made the dash kit.

I used a Metra Dash Install Kit as a base. I moved the DIN slot to the bottom, and used 2" PVC couplers as "gauge pods". The whole thing was "plastic welded" using an old soldering iron and the spare pieces from the Metra kit, then sanded down. After a bit of bondo, primer and paint, it turned out fairly well. It's not perfect, but it will do the trick until someone comes out with a gauge pod I like.

Oh, the gauges I will be using are 52mm. You could easily use a bigger coupler to make it usable for 60mm gauges.

It was a bit of a project, but it turned out ok.

I was debating about the same dilemma but I choose the flip out on top and gauges on the bottom so that I would be able to see both even though the flip out might seem a little high

..am still debating at this point, I agree that the flip out would suck on top when it's open but would also suck to an extent when it blocks the gauges :/. might just do the in-dash with a boost gauge on the steering column thingyy or a pod setup on top of the flip out ..UYYYYYYY haven't even picked up my car yet..im deciding between a 335 coupe and have till tomorrow IM BUGGIN OUT!!! AHHH!!
