In every car I've bought before I had to get an aftermarket kit. But all of the kits for the X are seriously bunk in my opinion.
They don't match up or the edges are all squared away or the color doesn't match the dash. Just keep your USDM piece and
put a trim plate around the head unit.

 

I think the only reason people buy the other kits is because their cars don't come with the Nav dash piece...they have the standard radio which takes up the whole area and is one piece.
But besides that, the trim piece you made looks very nice, good job

While I agree with your assessment that the Scosche and Metra pieces are poor quality, the JDM piece is not.

In my opinion, your piece just doesn't look right. I can't really pin-point it, but it kinda looks like someone put a small TV in an entertainment unit built for a big-screen.

 

I hadn't thought of it that way, but I hear what your saying. You have to keep in mind though that it's the same size screen, just not as much extension on the sides with the controls. Plus the silver bar across the top (which conveniently matches the silver on my head unit) is sweet.

Don't forget I bought the JDM piece too, but I still would have needed a trim plate and would have lost the silver bar. It's all good though, the JDM kit gave me extra white fasteners since I broke a few stock ones; plus gave me an extra face for the hazard/airbag thing under the head unit. I had to drill a 1/4" hole through that for my EQ controller.

Sorry, but I"m not diggin that EQ controller there. The deck looks pretty good, but where are your airbag lights/hazard switch now? What is your whole audio setup?

I just got my scoche kit in the mail yesterday, and I'm excited to see how mine will turn out.

 

I installed the scosche on mine last week and thought it matched up pretty well. To each his own though. You set up looks pretty good.
