Another AVIC F install w/ Scosche dash *pics*
A couple months in now on owning this unit - it's performed pretty good. I still don't have any problems. The only weird thing I've run in to is that for maybe 10% of the MP3s I load in to an SD card and play from the SD card, it cuts off 5 seconds at the end of each song. Oddly enough this seems to only be MP3s I've downloaded from Amazon.com. I read somewhere that MP3s encoded with LAME will do this on this unit, but nobody has seemed to be able to find any other encoder that will result in this behavior.
Regarding all of the negative press this unit gets, I'm not sure why. I haven't experienced any other issues. Most of it I think is FUD that comes from people who are simply repeating what they've read and haven't actually owned one of these, haven't owned any other NAV unit before, OR haven't played with one of these for more than 2 minutes IRL.
Its not the best nav unit I've owned, but the screen res is much better than my old D2 and D3, and it was only $400 (I think I paid $1200 each or so for the last two).

WOW, you got it too (the gap between kit and dash). I just installed my ECLIPSE AVN726E with the same dash kit and there seems to be a gap at the top. In your 3rd pic, top right-hand corner where kit meets dash...
Hey, just wondering, how is your bluetooth working for you? Mine sucks big time, I get A LOT of noise with my F90BT paired with iPhone 3G. I can hear folks perfectly fine, but the other end gets a lot of noise issue...
I need to get that dash kit, metra sucks!

both idling and driving local/highway speed? if yes, then i guess something is wrong with my setup then...

I've been running the F90BT for several months now
The fit with the Scosche is very good, but not perfect.
Audiophile quality is not going to happen in the X no matter what you do just due to road noise. Dynamat has helped, but it will always be a Mitsubishi not a BMW
Overall, I'm satisfied though I might have comparison shopped a little more had I known the voice commands would be practically useless
Issues so far
--the touchscreen was disappointing--you've got to be very deliberate and patient with your presses. It's not an iphone
--sometimes when you turn the system on and off the ipod de-synchs and you need to disconnect and reconnect the cable
--the voice control of the ipod is practically useless while driving unless you like shouting in your car and repeating yourself, which kind of defeats the "cool" factor in front of passengers. On a related note, the pioneer mic is not so good for bluetooth use in the car, even though I have it mounted on the rearview. Hard for people on the other end to hear you over the ambient noise without half-shouting
--When you restart the car it picks back up on the last song the ipod was playing but it forgets where you were in the menus which is mildly annoying
-Anyone going through the trouble to install an aftermarket HU on the Fosgate system should do themselves a favor and upgrade the amp while they're at it. You'd be amazed what the stock sub can do with proper power.
