What Amp for stock system?

Hi guys,

I was trying to upgrade my system and just wanted to change the Amp. I think the stock RF system isn't really that loud. I don't want to do too much, just hoping to get some more volume and punch out of it. Any recommendations?? Oh and I wanted to buy something that isn't too expensive, around 300-500 dollars.

Thanks.

Any of these would work...

I don't own a X but I wouldn't run factory speakers.... even the RF factory speakers off a bigger amp. Most factory systems are designed to handle the power they're given and not much more. I wouldn't put in a new amp if you aren't going to change out the speakers. Plus if you run a 5 channel amp you are going to need either a JL cleansweep or RF 3Sixty.1 or something simmilar to connect it to the factory system and get good signal to that amp so you actually improve your sound. But thats just my .02...

Would that be plug-n-play? Would you need to get anything else if you wanted to switch stock amp? Sorry, I suck at car audio.

Actually, just an upgraded amp is a HUGE improvement in the Evo X. Normally, I would agree with you about not keeping the stock speakers, but they are fine. Not competition-quality fine, but fine. The amp is the weak link in the system and really is a problem. Once you replace it, the system wakes up.

You don't need a cleansweep or the RF 360 if you get an amp with speaker inputs. If the amp only has RCA, then you will need a cleansweep or another line-level converter.

In the end will just upgrading the amp be a competition system? Heck no. But, it is a HUGE improvment for minimal dollars spent that would satisfy the majority of Evo X owners who aren't true audiophiles.

Depends on which amp you choose.

If the amp accepts speaker level inputs, then you'll need to cut some wires from the existing Rockford amp and run them into the new amp. Then you'll need to connect the existing speaker wires to the new amp.

If the amp accepts RCA inputs (only), then you'll need a line-level converter like the JL Audio Cleansweep or something similar. Then you'll need to cut some wires from the existing Rockford amp and run them into the line-level converter. Then run RCAs into the new amp. Then you'll need to connect the existing speaker wires to the new amp.

Either amp you choose will need a power/ground wiring kit to connect power to the battery.

Call Crutchfield or visit a local car audio store and tell them your plan. They'll be able to help you find something that will work in your car.

Good advice here. Are you refering to the 'premium' RF sound package with six disc and sub in the truck? I also don't know much about audio, but am not that impressed with the amount of punch I get out of the stock sub.

So you're keeping the stock sub?

If you can, try to go with a true 5-channel amp. That way you can power the front and rear door speakers with 4 channels and the sub with the 5th dedicated sub channel. Will work best.

Check the link in post #2. The "cheapest" is $350 which is a good price. There are probably cheaper amps out there (probably at Best Buy), but none that I'm aware of.
