Could you be kind enough to take a picture of the back of the kit and post it up here?

What I want to see is if it is possible to sand the top and bottom overhang down to something like this: (picture taken from ebay)



and still left with enough support on the back to use fiberglass / epoxy to mold an LCD in... It would be great if I can see if there is any differences on the back between these two kits.

If you're doing a custom job, you could make it work if you know what you're doing. There are clips on the back side of the metra and scosche kits, but you don't need every single one of the for it to hold snug. You might lose two of the clip points depending on what you're plans are. It will still hold in the dash and not rattle. What are your plans..? It sounds like you're doing a car PC. If so, you might want to save a headache and just get a double DIN VGA screen that comes with an integrated amp.
