If the pictures dont work I have made by lancer car pc album public for anyone to see.
http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/r...er%20Carputer/
The pc has a copy of windows xp sp2, centrafuse 3.0
the hardware is
Intel BOXD945GCLF Intel Atom processor 230 Intel 945GC Mini ITX (65.00)
PNY Optima 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) (35.00)
SLim mini itx case that fits nicely under the passenger seat (100)
M2-ATX (160w) Intelligent DC-DC Car PC Power Supply (85.00)
Lilliput intelligent touchscreen with bytebyte double din kit (225)
scosche dash kit (40)
Ground loop iso (20)
This car pc is designed to be used with the stock headunit AUX here is a thread explaining how it works basically its like your stock radio is there but hidden and you are just running the sound through the AUX port on the stock radio.
In the original thread i was using a mini laptop thats why it only cost me 300 to make but with the addition of centrafuse and a real pc it put the costs above 600
I have also added a GPS sensor, next step is to get an OBD II Bluetooth Reader and a wifi card to tether internet from my htc evo, then I should be able to run GOOGLE traffic with the plug in for centrafuse 3.

under seat, stock head unit hidden behind hvac controls.all wires ran properly under the carpet , to the passenger side, up behind the glovebox and to the LCD screen/ where ever else I need USB (usb hub/ gps/ etc)
i'm running one in my VIII.... 8" lilput touch screen fits perfect with the jdm bezel (a little chopping of the case is needed), an atom based pc under the seats with navigation through garmin (cause centrafuse does suck), a sony 4 channel amp for the speakers (don't need it to scream at me, but it can play pretty damn loud). the whole rig was about 600 bucks peiced together though mp3car. i love it, 250gb hdd has all my tones, and a bunch of music videos so i can distract myself while i drive... plus i can play some game made like 10 years ago so my passangers can get in on some starcraft thanks to the bluetooth keyboard. It is a little bit of work, but you can do more with it then just a regular touch navi unit... plus it's got ecuflash and ecuscan on it so all your mobile tuning needs are right there. good luck
Wouldn't the aux setup restrict you to Stereo only? no Surround effects right? Not knocking on your effort, just asking.
using the aux is just like using my ipod touch with the factory RF setup.
the factory RF setup sucks with the radio and cds and is only decent with an ipod/car pc.
also i dont know what you mean by surround effects ?

I haven't installed one in my car, but I have for other people. It is definitely the way to go.
Use a mini-ITX based motherboard with the automotive PICO-PSU power supply. Use a SSD for the hard drive so it is more resistant to heat and bumpy environments. You can build the CarPC for just a few hundred bucks.
I'd recommend one of these screens:
http://www.revo-sys.com/65_inch_doub...pc_monitor.php
It has everything to plug-n-play into the evo and utilize the factory speakers without the need for a separate amp. It also has readily available touchscreen drivers. I've used the Liliput monitors and I have grown to not like them. The quality is shoddy and the touchscreen is one of the worst I've used.
For your OS, use Windows 7 and Centrafuse. It is by far the best software I've used for a CarPC. It does OBD2, GPS, internet, email, phone sync, etc. The skin support makes it match your car color themes too.
EDIT... here's a parts list.
Case: Winsys Winsis Wi-05 mini-ITX w/ 200w PSU (throw out the power supply)
