Alternator / turbo noise while headunit is off??
Alternator / turbo noise while headunit is off??
Setup: I have a Kenwood Excelon 9140, JL Audio G6600, All Exile speakers, shielded Street Wires speaker wires, and shielded Street Wires RCA wires. The wires are tapped into the wires that went into the factory Rockford Fosgate amp (now completely disconnected).
I am receiving what is a high pitch sound that seems to go along with the spin of the turbo or the alternator. But what boggles my mind is it does it while the headunit is off!!! Before I realized it did it while it was off, I tried running the RCA's outside of the car completely away from any wiring (still did it). I tried different speaker wiring (originally had some cheap unshielded monster speaker wires).
Any suggestions? Should I try the big three upgrade?

My 1st guess would be that it's coming in where the shielded wires are tapped into the factory wires.. but that's just a guess.
Have you tried running running your RCA-outs from the 9140 straight to the G6600 amp yet?? I'd say try that as a test 1st, and then maybe even run your shielded speaker wires direct from the amp straight to the speakers, and bypass any factory wiring if you haven't already.
Just an idea though.. also, maybe make sure your amp and receiver grounds are solid, or perhaps try grounding them to a spot that isn't already being used by any other factory wiring.
Good luck!

The ground and power go right back into the battery (since it's less than 3ft away).
I'm tending to agree with you that it's where it's tapped into the factory amp wiring. I think I'm going to run some shielded speaker wire through the doors and by pass the factory wiring completely.
(thanks for the ideas)
