I am trying to get an Evo X GSR, but it's a repo at a Federal Credit Union. I need help with finding out why it won't start. The car has plenty of battery power. I had a Booster pack AND Jumper cables on the Evo's Battery during this scenario. The keys they gave me to start it are definitely not factory. I can tell. I cannot figure out how to start it. I used their key to unlocked it with no problem. However, when I put their key into the ignition, the dash screen between the tach and the speedo says "REMOVE KEY". What is the problem here? Did the Evo I am looking at maybe come with a certain key with a chip in it that must be needed to start it?
I am at a loss...I need help. If I can find a way to start it, and take it for a spin to ensure that the car is copacetic, then I am gonna buy it...regardless if the tires are bald!

Might be that they didnt have the keys coded for the anti theft system? are you using the keyless entry or are you using a fast start key?

The key should have an Immobilizer chip in it. Does the motor turn over at all when you crank the key? If it doesn't have the immobilizer chip in the key you will need to clear out the immobilizer key code in the ROM or get a new key cut with a new chip and program that code into the ECU.

Wow.. that HAS to be it. I think you hit it on the head. Dude, both keys they gave me are some regular aftermarket joints... They are NOT factory...i dont even know where they got em from. The woman told me she didnt get the keys from the owner. She had to get a set somewhere else. She obviously didn't know about this security chip that's needed in the key to start the Evo. Those keys got me INTO the car, but that's about it.Originally Posted by buchnerj

you need atleast one key to program the other new keys if not you will have to tow it to the dealer with proper paper work to get a key cut and programed to the car or it will never start you can talk to a locksmith but dont know if they can do it with out one key that is already programedOriginally Posted by MionieEvo

No, it's the key. AP anti-theft mode allows the car to start, but sets the rev limited below where the car will idle. What OP is describing is the ignition lock-out not registering the immobilizer code.Originally Posted by XstormtrooperX
Could it be the COBB AP anti-theft mode?

Ask the repo company if they flatbedded it. They probably don't know enough about 4wd cars to lie. I have yet to meet a repo guy that owns a flatbed. If they dragged it 50 miles on te freeway by the front wheels, a key and an oil change might be the least of your worries. . .
