Question Premium Package - is it worth it?

How good is the 710watts Rockford Fosgate audio system? I remember reading reviews in the past that said it sucked *****.

Does anyone have pictures of the inside of the MR with the premium package? does it make the econobox lancer interior look half decent? or does it look like a pig with lipstick?

You are asking about the 2011 MR, correct? The premium price of $2k is fair. You get fast key, leather / suede Recaros and the fosgste system. I just purchased a base MR, sans the bits I mentioned above.

The premium Rockford system is a joke - I can't believe they even put their name on without being embarrassed. It's completely underpowered and barely audible at highway speeds w/ the windows down and the level doesn't go up w/ the numbers after around level 30 or so.

My girlfriend just got a 2011 Kia Sportage and the sound system/nav package for 1500 completely blows away my so called premium system. Seriously here level 8 is higher then my max output. I guess the amp is to blame but its a PITA to mess around with....

Ohh - and I was just ranting about the "premium stereo", not the whole package. The fast key is by far my favorite thing of all time

I like the Rockford system the only thing that's a joke it the non-nav head unit, it looks ugly and the ipod controls stink. I would have taken the nav over the premium but none of the dealers had an MR with nav in stock and they all wanted $2,500 to put one in.

So to the OP, see if you can find an MR with the premium package and listen to the system and check out all the other add-ons (leather, keyless) in person and see if it is worth the extra $2k to you.

ice might be referring to the 2008 Rockford Fosgate system. I love the Rockford Fosgate system in my 2011. I believe they've improved it over the years. I consider myself an audiophile, and I find the premium system perfectly acceptable

That said, I think the Premium package is the best bang for the buck package. You get ultra nice suede/leather seats, fast key, and a pretty darn good stock sound system

Correct me if I am wrong, the FAST Key is standard on *ALL* MRs regardless of extras?
Are there any MRs out there without the FAST key?

Not correct. I just bought an '11 MR "base". No FAST key. It has all the mechanical bits of the MR; BBS wheels, touring trunk (standard on all '11 MR's), two piece rotors, SST, blah, blah, but now with cloth Recaro's, base radio, interior trim, etc.

I cannot believe any audiophile would not laugh at the premium sound. It's so underpowered its sad! The audio goes from bad to worse to horrible as you turn up the volume or have the music on for 30 seconds. The clarity is just not there. I would rather listen to one of my sets of iem headphones than the stereo. Takes 4 minutes for my iPod to play through USB. BT with my iPhone works great. Fast key is great.

You might need to get some better music or your hearing is going bad. Cause the RF system in my MR-T is awesome my wife has the same system in her 2010 outlander and loves it. Yeah its not a bose, or mark levinson system but for a factory system its pretty good for only 700 watts 8.1 system....yeah the IPOD connect sucks i will say that. my MR-t doesnt have one, the outlander does.

I would buy it for the fast key and good bt integration. Apparently there are differences of opinion here so I would spend some time listening to it. Here are some things to listen for. First the tone and balance changes with volume. Biggest difference is with bass. Boomy at lower volume and lacking as u turn up. Next, the sub may make a stereo seem more clear but only partially works here. Compare this system to any aftermarket system with discrete amps and you will see a big difference. Also for a system that has "audiophile" sound you can hear every part of the music the distinct clarity. Most people who don't play in a band or orther similar don't seem to precieve a difference. Over time the lack of clarity will fatigue the listener. I'm more in aggreement with another poster who cannot believe fosgate put their name on it. I have owned lots of their gear in the past to much enjoyment. Looking at the system at a quick glance it seems to have what it takes to be a good system in paper but lacks in practice.

Where I live, there are no other evo x in the area. I met a total fanboy at Costco one day. He was asking me about the car. He showed me his phone which had a self made evo x theme on it. I let him check out the car and even give it drive. When he asked about the premium system I told him not to even bother. I was super proud of my car all week but felt a little ashamed of the system. I told him you dont buy the car for the radio and left it at that.

ppl here that dont like the system are trying to compare the system to a full aftermarket system. The premium system was never meant to compete or be on the same page as a full aftermarket systems it was just a marginal system to be better than the weak *** factory system and im sure its cheaper than a JBL, bose, or mark system... oh and to the poster above me you dont need to be in a band or a music producer to understand music and hear quality sound. Yes if you dont like it you can always build your own, but you wont be able to build a 8.1 710 watts system for under $2k....

P.S it also depends on how well your hearing is and the type of music you listen too......

At least with the 2010+ it seems they did away with the volume limiting.
