What's the difference in this vs using an IPAD? I just connect my IPAD to the AUX in and use my phone to tether to get internet also...

^^ probably not much different, in theory. Though a CarPC running Windows can run a frontend interface like Centrafuse, that's designed to operate similarly to regular aftermarket stereo/nav units.

Plus, most CarPC setups look more OEM, than just having an iPad hanging off the dash.. but both can get the job done I suppose.

Nice work, a carputer is in the plans for me this winter. I gotta figure out how to utilize the steering wheel controls before I start.

I just unclipped the OBDII port so it doesn't point down. Mine is sitting next to the knee airbag and I have it connected to my carputer at all times.

Thanks. Centrafuse does have all that functionality but honestly I haven't used it so I can't say if it works good.

Basically what AFD said I didn't want a laptop hanging off the radio or use my phone anymore. With the setup like this I can have all my video, music, nav and everything else in dash

Sounds like a good idea I may have to do that too

I don't know if it would work in this application or not, but there are steering wheel control adapters that scoshe makes. It basically hooks into the module on the back of the column and runs to the radio.

Usually they are brand specific for the HU, but there are a few universal one's out there.

I don't think the Scoshe one will work. Those are designed for stereos.

There are ones specific to carPCs but I haven't tried them so I don't know if it will work with the Mitsu wheel and how much effort it takes.

OP

did you completely remove stock HU, therefore you dont have radio at all?
Only reason I am asking is I did a carPC install in my 350z and there was a cubby hole where I intalled my Liliput screen and just wired PC audio output to my AUX in my stock BOSE HU

Thanks

Right I removed the radio completely. I thought about just using the aux but there's nowhere to mount a touchscreen, no cubbys big enough anyway. Im sure one could be molded somwhere but I really didn't want to do that.

I ghettoed it a bit.

Might be a bit different in the newer Lancers since they redesigned the cubbies.
