Amp mount options

Anyone ever tried to mount an amp to the back of the back seat? Possible?

Not sure that my Rockford p400 will fit under a seat and I'm not sure I want to rerun the power and grounds anyway.

Ya, can't remember who did it.. but someone mounted their amp between the battery and washer solvent reservoir. Probably the perfect spot for an amp.. I'll see if I can find any pics..

Found it! 1st post in this thread. Not sure how big that Memphis amp is, but it'll make for a nice stealth install if your amp fits..

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...x-started.html

EDIT: Other ideas would be to mount the amp upside down from the ceiling of the trunk.. in the spare wheel well (if you're not carrying the spare).. or maybe behind the right wheel well, opposite of the factory sub location (if you can avoid blocking the AYC fluid reservoir).. or on the left, where the factory sub is (if you're not running a sub, or installing one in a separate box).

Thank you. Wondering how he went about making the amp rack.

What would you mount the amp to if you went with a wheel well? Just drill into sheet metal?

I tried the ceiling but that really needs some kind of rack also. Without it there's not enough width to the ceiling for all 4 corners of the amp to screw in.

Very welcome! Ya, wish he gave more details on the rack he built.. you could probably PM him or contact him at his WickedCAS shop. I didn't see any amp racks for sale at their website, but I'd definitely buy one if he made them.

For the wheel well, I've seen guys just build circular amp racks out of MDF.. but I'm not sure if they were just pressure fit into place, or drilled and mounted to the car itself.

In almost any case, you'll probably need to fab a rack of some sort to have the amp secure.

Another option I've seen is guys building false floors in the trunk to mount just about anything.. seems like a lot of work though. You can check out Caraudiomag.com or DIYMobileaudio.com for examples of that.

I just finished up mine over the weekend.

I used a piece of 1/2" plywood on the other side of the plastic to make sure it was secure. I should have mounted it much higher than this, though. The fuse is actually mounted under the carpet line. Oops.

Here is a shot from the inside showing the reinforcement.

There is quite a bit of clearance under the driver/passenger seat as well. But that also depends on the size of your amp. MDF mounts are a good solution (not too heavy but plenty strong).

On page #1 of this thread, there's pics of a JL 300/4 v1 (13.4"L x 9.25"W x 2.36"H)..

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...d-oem-amp.html

And on page #2 of this thread, there's pics of a JL M4300 (13.8"W x 9.25"W x 2.5"H)..

As long as the measurements you provided, and the measurements that I found online for the 2 JL amps are all correct, then your Kenwood is slightly smaller and should fit.
