Fosgate AUX vs CDs

I finally got around to hooking up my MP3 player today and I'm shocked at how much more range I can get out of it compared to the CD source. CD's can only get to about 75% of the AUX volume and it tends to fluctuate even with dynamic volume set to off.

My question is... is there something wrong with my head unit or is this the case for everyone???

Its a 2008 X with SSS.

I have my htc evo plugged in and it is considerably louder than the actual cd player. Your head unit is fine

I've had the opposite experience with an ipod touch third gen. The volume is lower when using the 3.5mm jack than when using the cd player. Its even worse when using a BT dongle (sony), I really have to crank it then, however I gather the volume issue is devicedependent (BT dongle). My android phone is also low via BT dongle on the evo x navi.

It might also depend on what your AUX source's volume is set to..

I can't remember if it was my MP3 player or my phone, but one of them limited the device's volume to around 75% of max with a 3.5mm cable plugged in, which was rather quiet compared to the CD volume. So I can definitely see having an MP3 player with volume at 100% being much louder than the CD.

But.. if it's much louder than the CD, there's also a chance that you could be clipping the signal.. which isn't good for sound quality, and it's probably not good for your speakers either.

Yeah if I crank the volume on the ipod the sound is distorted...but that could be an ipod issue
