Radio cutting in and out?

Anyone have the issue with their sound (rockford system) cutting in and out?

My car just went out of warranty and the radio will remain on but no sound will come out of the speakers. When you attempt to go in and change any settings it does not recognize the subwoofer also.

It will then randomly turn back on and sound great and then stop again. Does the same thing with Cd's or Sat or if I plug something into the AUX port.

At first I thought the amp may have been bad and overheating but when I start the car the sound will not work also and the time when the sound comes on is inconsistenet at the same volume levels. Any ideas?

I have had the same problem several times. Both times i took it to had them test the whole system and turns out that both my amp and sub were going bad. They did not short out. My guess is the there is a short somewhere in the cabling like with mine. I took my GTS to an aftermarket installer and had them redo the cable an i have not had a problem since.

Reminder this worked for me and just letting you know my experience and what fixed it.

Good luck in your endeavors!

Sounds like this might be a loose audio cable or something wrong with the amp. I had my amp and subwoofer replaced under a 5-year/35k mile warranty. I'd call your local dealer or stop by and see what they can do.

I Checked the amp and reconnected everything, guess I am going to have to pull out the main unit this weekend and see what the deal is. Mitsubishi wanted 100$ to run diagionistocs on it and tell me what was wrong...

Does anyone know of a procedure to test the amplifier to make sure its getting a signal and power? I would hate to buy the main unit and have it be the amp or vise versa. Mitsu is quoting me a little bit of money....

Not sure if this will answer your question (probably not), but here goes:
If you have the MMCS, you can hold down SET+NAVI at the same time for 3 seconds to bring up the "technician" menu. You can select "Speaker Test" from this menu to see if the woofer/speakers are receiving a steady signal. If everything work while you're in park, try having someone else (or doing it yourself-not the safest suggestion) while driving. It may be that potholes, etc. are affecting the wiring somewhere. This may tell you which speakers are messed up, or not help at all. I'm not sure what the procedure is for the regular stereo system/head unit as I've never had it.
