alternator whine in speakers
I have owned several Mitsubishi's from 1990 to my present 2011 GSR. All of them have had a alternator whine. My 2011 GSR with the stock Nav unit has a very faint whine. I have notice when upgrading the head units it seems to amplify it. I had upgraded sterios on my 1990 Eclipse GS and my 97 GST. Both had the whine. Mitsubishi just has bad grounding. Try adding a couple grounding wires from the block/Alternator bracket to the frame and see if that helps. I doubt it's your unit.

OP- Upgrade your battery to chassis ground, engine to chassis ground, and don't use the ground in the head unit harness. Run your own ground to something metal like the dash support. Make sure to remove any coating or paint first.
Ya but ive tried everything else. I dont want to play with the amp, battery, or alternator and blow my warranty. Weird thing is i had no whine last night but did in the afternoon. Maybe its only when alternator kicks on? I dunno. Very annoyedd
Dang, sorry to hear of the crappy update. Just thoght of something, though.. if you have a spare speaker laying around (or could borrow someone's), maybe try hooking it up directly to one of the powered channels on the new deck (and disconnect the other 3 channels and any pre-outs). If you still get whine through the test speaker, the interference is probably occuring somewhere in the deck's wiring.. and if there's not any whine from the single speaker, then the issue is probably coming in through the metra factory amp interface and/or its wiring to the deck or to the amp.
Just an idea, and something relatively quick and easy to test out. I've used a few aftermarket deck to factory amp interfaces like the metra before, and have had nothing but problems with them. So if swapping decks didnt work, maybe swapping metra boxes might?
