I don't recommend the PDX-5... not only is it years old, but it starts getting weak as it gets hot.

This is my entire current system:

Kenwood KIV-BT901
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...ideo/KIV-BT901

Kenwood eXcelon XR-5s 5-channel amp (fits perfectly under the driver seat)
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...plifiers/XR-5S

Kenwood eXcelon XR-W12F (fits in factory sub housing, with plenty of room)
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...oofers/XR-W12F

Kenwood eXcelon KFC-x1730p components (used 1/2" MDF ring for the speakers for a perfect seal, and the tweeters were almost meant to be in our doors)
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...ers/KFC-X1730P

Kenwood eXcelon KFC-x183c co-axials (again used 1/2" MDF ring for a perfect seal, these are some of the best rears i have had)

If you want some really nice speakers for not a lot of money, check out CDT-Audio, some of the best speakers I've ever heard. I wanted to go with a 100% brand system this time around. I'm 99% happy with the current set up I have.

I'm not sure mrMTB got that the fronts are 5.25", but I've had 6.5" in the fronts of both my '08 and '11, no issues installing them.

6.5 fronts, what about rears? the 7" fit?

I am confused what exactly is a MDF ring? I am sure a place I would go for install would know, but I like learning.

That sub you say fits into factory housing - do all cars come with the housing? Do I need a box, or how exactly would it go in?

The headunit you have, is it a single DIN? technically a double din would fill the entire "hole" correct?

Thanks for the reply! BTW: on a 1-10 how big of an audiophile are you?

The 7" fit great with the MDF ring.

An MDF ring is basically sound quality wood that is cut in a ring shape . http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nk...ngs+Fiberglass

Sorry, that box comes with the factory RF system. But just about any decent box will work. Some often sell their fiberglass formed boxes in the classified sections. There is also a company in washington that makes them for the evo x. http://www.wickedcas.com/gallery/v/magicboxes/EVOX/

Yah, the headunit I have is single din. I did this on purpose this time around as I'm putting my gauges below the unit. Before I had a double din in my '08 and couldn't find a good place for my gauges. As I said I had a 9960 (double din 7") before. Great unit, no complaints, but wanted to go single this time. Yes you can fit a double din just fine. Either get the JDM dash kit (about $200, 100% perfect fit) or get the Scoshe dash kit (about $35, with about 90% perfect fit).

I used to be huge into it, before a 8-9. Now I'd say I'm about a 6-7. The evo has a few road noises, so it's hard to go for perfect sound quality when you have your b-pillar rattling in your ear

You're correct, migs... They are 6.5 F and R.

6.5 components front, 6.5 coax rear.. I'm not sure, but some oversized 6.75 might fit as well.

ETA: oops, sorry.. didn't see that was corrected on the 2nd page =)

Instead of the Pioneer P2300DVD, I'd get the P3300BT.. pre-out voltage jumps from 2v x2 to 4v x3 for a cleaner signal to your amps and an extra pre-out for a sub, Bluetooth is built-in (instead of requiring an add-on box), and SD slot, auto-eq & pandora is also included. Unfortunately, the USB is only on the front, which really sucks.

Most double-dins have an option for Sirius (only as an add-on box), just make sure that it is listed as an option (the P3300BT's box is ~$70 after rebate). And don't forget, you'll probably want to buy a compatible PAC SWI or Metra Axxess steering wheel interface, if you want the stock buttons to control the unit.

Being an audiophile sucks, unless you have unlimited funds and don't mind listening in-doors. And being both an audiophile and a car audio enthusiast is a contradiction, since the car is one of the worst listening environments.

I really enjoy driving and listening to music, but I'm pretty sure if I had the money, I could drop $20k into a system and I'd still wanna complain about the results.

Just shoot for "much better than stock" and you should be okay

I have the SSS RF system with my GSR.
Personally I think you could have a nicer quality sound with something other than RF. I went the RF route because I wanted a factory OE sub, but I thought I could upgrade the amp and headunit, but when I found out it was wired via the CAN bus, and I would lose FUSE...I'm just sticking with what I have.

my last car (STi) had 2 door speakers and a super crappy panasonic deck and I never cared because I could listen to the turbo spool. So I'm definitely not enough of an audiophile to care, but I still think going another route than RF you'd be happier.

I just had to say. My 11 MR. 710 watts sounds great.
What I did is just ajust every thing how you want it to sound. I see many do not like this system. I dont get it.
