Rockford Fosgate system cost
Rockford Fosgate system cost
Out of curiosity, how much would you guys value the RF system, or something similar? I've tried some searching on this site and in google but couldn't come up with anything...I am trying to decide if getting a car with it is worth it for the extra price, I like HID's but i don't need a ridiculous stereo...Thanks.

HID are great, comes with AFS..way lot better than stock halogen lamp. Its defintely worth the money for me

I think it may be cheaper to upgrade the speakers yourself rather then purchasing the stock upgrade. Plus, I ended up just upgrading the door panel speakers with Rockford Fosgate Power speakers and a RF amp. I really like the sound of the speakers and I think you probably save money but are stuck with paying for the install.
The RF system is actually pretty good. It has it's limitations though.
Having many high end aftermarket systems in my previous cars, I can live with the RF system.
It's not going to hit as hard, and the RF sound processing that does the auto leveling is going to kill all the peaks. It's like the exact opposite of "BBE" processing if you've ever heard that.
If you consifer yourself an audiophile and want the purest sound, go aftermarket, but if you want something you don't have to fuss with, this is definitely a step above just a cheap OEM system.

As for a factory option, despite being an "upgrade" - I thought the sound was pretty good in my 08 GTS with the S&S package.
But that was at first, or rather, ironically, until about 3,000 miles ago, when my warranty expired. My amp started to show signs of wear that I didn't recognize, and now it's completely gone. It still has power, as while I drive down the road even after pressing the "stereo off" button I can hear ambient static throughtout my speakers. Sometimes - other times it goes completely quiet as if I've blown the fuse (fuse 31 in the engine bay, if you're wondering), but then it'll come back to static.
Now I'm going to have to replace the stock amp - and while I'm at it, why not with some even better speakers? After all when I was in college and worked in a stereo shop I was a JL Audio nut, so the idea of Rockford Fosgate equipment annoyed me to no end - and obviously to this day it still does.
And let's not mention that to upgrade the maps version in your car, well, legally any way, you're going to pay $200 - $300 for each update. That's what I don't understand about my car. I bought it in 2008 - why did it come with a 2006 maps version that doesn't even recognize the street I live on because my house was built in early 2007? So look out for that.
Bottom line, I'd say that with the money, plus my own labor (which I estimate as "not cheap") you'd probably be better off getting a basic stereo and upgrading it to whatever you want, as I'm going to do, even with this upgrade. That is, unless you lease, and it'll always be under warranty. Then by all means, go all-out.
