HID conversion recommendations!

I just bought a 14' GSR that doesn't come with the factory HID's. I wanted to know what is need to make this happen and where to buy these HID conversion kits from. I looked on ddmtunning.com but I don't know what to look for and what I need. The only thing I want basically is 8000k brightness and and blu-ish color. Thx in advance.

Most people will tell you not to do an HID kit in the factory halogen housings. You're much better off buying projectors. People sometimes sell complete OEM projector units with balasts, which just plug and play. I found a set being sold on the forum here and bought those...it is a better alternative to HID halogens. Just more expensive.

I heard that putting the factory HIDs tend to flicker and don't stay on consistently.

Well there are a few options for getting projectors...

You can buy stand alone from the dealer (very expensive)

Keep an eye out in the interior/exterior evo x classifieds section here. People post them up for sale somewhat often. Pricing will vary on these...

You can get the Depo OEM style housings, and do a projector conversion using evox-r projectors or something along those lines. There are people floating around the evo community that sell complete drop in units made from these as well. I think these usually run about $1000 for the standard custom job.

Of course you can always do a HID conversion kit in your halogens, it is just frowned upon (those are the blinding lights you run into at night)

$1k is a little too expensive for just lights. I would mind just doing the hid conversion. Don't worry,I will keep the brightness down. Can you Point me in the right direction on how to do the hid conversion please?

I just saw your post about flickering...that really only applied to X's with daytime running lights. the 2014 shouldn't have that issue.

Anyway, I don't know a ton about HID conversions, as I went a different route. I do know you'll need the bulbs, balasts, and probably relay harnesses. After that, I would look around for conversion guides...there's bound to be something out there.

You can run HIDs in the non SSS headlights. I did for over a year. 8k HIDs with 9006 Kit. It didn't ruin my headlights or anything. I got a set of Depo headlights so I can have projectors and Halos and Demon eyes. Also upgraded Lens to project more light output. Worked just fine. And to eliminate the flicker I just always left my headlights on. Once you turn off car and take out the key lights turn off as well.
I get my kits from www.ddmtuning.com
Awesome kits. I had them on my 3000gt for 6yrs and only 1 bulb went out. Had them on my Evo for 2yrs now. No issues.
Hoped this helped!
