Backup Camera Install

Sorry I tried searching and just go a bunch of dead links to guides from a soflancer site. Just wanted to confirm that if I bought the oem harness that it provides power and I wouldn't have to splice into the rear light, that I would just need to splice the end of my camera connections into the harness (My camera just has the males yellow RCA connection and a red female RCA connection).

Yellow RCA is video signal. This will be run to the radio and tagged into the harness.

Red plug is 12v power. Easiest way to power the camera is to cut that plug off, there should be 2 wires in the rubber shield, 1 red and 1 black.

Red wire will have to be extended, run it up into the trunk and tag into the power for the reverse lights. This will ensure the camera powers up when you put the car in reverse.

Black wire goes to ground. Best place to get ground is in the trunk area, under a plastic panel to hide the wiring. In the trunk is better in the long run vs. grounding under the car somewhere. Keeps the connection out of the elements. Keep the ground as short as possible without stressing the wire too much.

IMO its much easier to get power at the reverse lights than to run it through the entire car.

Sounds good, I'll definitely take your advice and ground it in the trunk, as well aas tapping into the reverse lights.

I found the path to wire to the front in: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...nse-plate.html (Just linking for other people who may find this by searching).

One last question I do have is, to connect into the MMCS, do I need to splice into one of these connections in the picture attached? I tried to do some research but I've been finding conflicting results not sure if I can link other forums so not gonna post the links but to sum it up one talks about pins 3 & 6, the other 5 & 6. So not sure.

One thread on these forums thatI can link: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-nav-unit.html talks about removing the existing connection and just making your own. Is there a reason why you can't just use the existing connection and splice into the orange and yellow cable assuming 3 & 6 as opposed to removing the existing and just creating your own cable?

Once again, appreciate all your help.
