Turning down boost to up MPG figures
sorry but that is not true I would say the contrary evos are 20mpg cars, only if u get on it for while or have a high performance tune the mpg it will vary
Wrong. Unless you drive 99% on the highway do not expect more then 20mpg. I average 18mpg with a stock tune and about 15 miles of highway driving a tank on 93oct. And if anything, a "high performance" tune will net you better gas mileage. If you want good mpg buy a different car, that is pretty much the only answer.
I have a concervative tune with about 80% highway an I monitor my mpg every other tank and always get at least 270 miles per tank (sometimes 300) but if i have a fun night with the car the yes it will go down to 225 miles per tank that divided by 12 gives you 18.75mpg average. My car has 30,000 miles so ive tested it many times
If you could tune the cam timing on the X you could net slightly better gains on MPG I did on my IX and its also slightly more responsive but as everyone else has said don't put your foot in it lol or go buy yourself a Prius!!
i average 16-18mpg. life time average is 17mpg
i get 15 mpg when i boost often. 18-19mpg when i do 80% freeway with no boosting. 5mpg on the track. my record was 22mpg with all freway
the evo eats gas like a v8. it sucks but o wells just get use to it
Haha you guys crack me up. For someone to say hey you bought a performance car, get used to it. Ok buddy, this isnt an enzo ferrari, its a fing mitsubishi evo, and a 4 banger, so to say that getting decent gas mileage is neither her nor there is stupid. It really boils down the the driver, when I drove my 04 with out boosting at all, city...I would net 23-24 mpg. It really is all on weather you boost or not. Awd, and being heavy is for sure a negitive aspect but it shouldnt be netting you 15 mpg. And if it does then your boosting a lot.
The latest motor trend or car&driver review stated that crusing rpm at 60 mph is about 2.6k. Now, isn't the 4b11T making almost all the torque at 3k which amounts to some boost produced by the turbine? Nonetheless, this is an AWD car. I completely understand the drivetrain inefficiencies. 23-24 mpg would be nice for 80-90% highway driving. It would it one step closer to an Evo... I just can't get over how sexy they look.
I filled up my tank maybe 8 to 10 times....I think I'm getting around 11 mpg. I was crusing 80~90 mph, and I had to fill up around 160 miles. The gas mileage on EVO X are pretty bad. I have a 380 rwhp 350z that gets around 28 on highway and 13 in city. I can only imagine what kind of gas mileage I would get once I modify the car.
Best solution, buy a used Honda Civic for commuting. I know a guy who stripped down his 96 hatch back to bare bones, and he gets close to 40 mpg.

All of these silly comments.
Fact is - the EVO (any) is a gas guzzler. It doesn't matter if you are in boost or not. The best thing to do is get a used car that doesn't use as much gas. But then you are paying $40k for a car that you hardly use.. sux..
