ecutek license transfer?

Is it possible to transfer an ecutek license from an Evo VIII ECU to an Evo X ECU?

I'm pretty sure the VIN isn't located inside the Evo VIII ECU code.

Why would you be able to transfer the license of a flashed 8 or 9 to a X? That would make horrible business sense since EcuTek would be basically giving away free flashes to previous clients who had older evos, which would represent the majority of their new clients. They would have spent all the time doing R&D for nothing if that were the case. Not only that, but the licenses are attached to the software and the ecu that it's going into.

The ecu in the EVO X is totally different than the older EVOs since it is CAN BUS based for one, it has a lot of parameters that wouldn't even apply to the older EVOs like mivec on the exhaust side, e-throttle, MAP sensor, etc. It's a totally different ecu with a totally different code. No offense but this has to be one of the most ridiculous questions I've ever heard. You may as well have asked if AMS will give you a free exhaust for your X if you bought one from them for your EVO 8. Pfff.

Shot in the dark for someone that paid a couple of hundred dollars for an ecutek license a few months before ECUflash was released to recover some of their lost cash while helping a new Evo X owner by selling them the license for a cheap price.... Worth posting the question, IMO.

BTW... I'm well aware of the new CANBUS interface. I'm also aware of the new Tactrix cable/interface in the works.

I would think not.

Can you transfer your Windows XP license over to Windows Vista? I think not....they want you to pay for the development costs of the new program.
