Purchasing a car with an Ecutek, want to reflash to stock

So has ecutek still stuck their head in the sand on this sort of scenario?

If i was to purchase a ecutek'd car, would I be able to flash back to a base map (if i can find one for an MR), and then install a cobb?

If cobb is around here (hi trey/chris/whom ever), you can PM me if you dont want to post the answer in here. (i dont want this to turn into a flame thread)

As to why i would care, I had these same issues with ecutek on a previous subaru. Right about the time they decided to use a proprietary protocol for reflashing ecu's. This to me as a techie is 100% unacceptable and i have vowed to never use their product or services tied to their products ever again.

Also does the openecu project work witht he evoX mr yet?

Going back to stock would be a down grade you should just try and speed up the improvement process and live in denial for a couple weeks.... Until you find an alternative tune, the stock tune is soo bad I hear..

what would be the point of getting the AP if you already have ecutek tune. save your money and get the AP when you add more mods to your car.

flashing a stage 1 ecutek and stage 1 AP is going to net you the same HP and $695 less in pocket change. Plus you just threw away a $500 ecutek flash.

money was spent even if you didnt spend it. i understand your hate for them but its still stupid to get an AP when you can spend the money elsewhere.

Either way i would think the AP can flash right over the ecutek tune. good luck on whatever you do. I also got an AP.

You aren't much for economics are you, its a sunk cost. Yes the money was spent, but it was not spent by me, nor does it factor into the price of the vehicle so for me it is moot. It might as well not be in the car from my perspective, hence the question of removing it. (and no doubt the tune on the care is awesome and from a reputable tuner, but that doesnt matter as well i refuse to be locked into a product from a vendor)

These sorts of practices are reprehensible in my view, and i want NO PART with any company or group that thinks these practices are "ok" or "warranted". They should be more focused on developing features and functions that attract customers, not mechanisms to lock them in place.

And the bs line about "we had requests from tuners to add the feature so that other tuners cant "mess up" their work" is bs in my book.

Yeah im not sure it will, last time i ran into an issue with ecutek they had modified the handshaking protocol from the ECU with their own version. This basically meant i could only use ecutek software to communicate with the CPU, thus locking me into their product/that tuner.

I am not sure if they have continued this practice or not, but in all honesty it does not matter to me. Once that bridge was burned there was to be no more commerce between me and them. (i was able to overwrite the ecutek on the subaru using some hackery, and a base image that was modified by me)

I don't think removing it would be an issue. If the evo has an older build date, I believe you could even go to the dealer and ask for the update flash the improves idle. Just thell them you car idles rough and it has a hickup at 5500rpm. If the second factory flash has not been done they will update it for you for free under warrenty. Just my .02

It sould be possible to load in the AP maps even if your car was previously tuned with ECUTek. If loading the AP maps are possible, then reverting back to stock should be possible with the AP too. This is because the AP has the stock maps within it, you can install the AP and switch to the AP maps or the stock maps.

That is not always the case...
Ecutek is like anyone else $4-5K gets you software regardless of your "ability"
I have seen Dozens of Ecutek tuners that couldn't tune a damn guitar never mind a Car...... but thats just my opinion.
