Purchasing a car with an Ecutek, want to reflash to stock
really? I inquired about getting the ECUTek software and was thrown a bunch of questions about what dyno i had, my experience, my business name and location, and more. totally turned me off.
This is because the AP has the stock maps within it, you can install the AP and switch to the AP maps or the stock maps.
"Stock style map. Uses stock fuel, timing, and boost values for conditions when you need the vehicle's ECU to act like it is still stock. DOES NOT UNINSTALL AP FROM VEHICLE."
Perhaps it's close, but not same.
To the OP: AP can overwrite ecutek. I did this on my old sti no problem. As far as the stock map is concerned, on a stock ecu'd evo, if you "unmarry" the AP then it would revert back to the original image flashed to the ecu from the dealer. If you just loaded the "stock like map" that comes with the AP then the car would run the exact same as the stock tune, but you're right that it wouldn't be the exact image that came on your car. Since in your case, if you unmarried the AP, it would revert back to what the ecu image was prior to installation which in your case would be the ecutek tune, and that's your concern I assume? I'm guessing you're worried about your warranty if it were discovered that your ecu had been tinkered with, but dealers almost never check for a reflash because it is extremely difficult and if they don't suspect it's there, there is no reason for them to even bother. Plus, there has never been a report on EVOM about a warranty being voided from a reflash, most likely because no dealer has ever looked or been able to detect one, so I think you're making a big deal over nothing.
