Question ECUTEK or Cobb AP?

so far i have installed:
agp fmic and full ic (hot and cold) pipe.
agency power bov.
full ur tbe (single exit, metal hfc and dp)
ams intake and
a works tune (303whp and 313wtq now on 91oct)

i have bought:
ultimate racing 1000cc low imm injectors, install/fuel filter kit and walbro 255lp pump
aem meth kit with labonte failsafe.
agency power engine mount
hks thermostat
act hd6g 6 puck clutch with fadanza flywheel
extreme boost external dump with jgs external wastegate
arp head stud (honda b18c)
cossie mx1 cams and
FP Red Turbo

and will get them install in January.

My situation is

i will be on 91oct with 50/50 meth.
i will not be switching map. (not going to data log and monitor my car)
i am pretty much done with my power upgrades (maybe upgrading valves, retainer and valve springs later) (maybe suspension and brakes later) but nothing major.

question is
should i get a tune using ECUTEK or should i get a COBB AP and "play around" with it?

Thanks guys

kl

I'm fairly sure you would want to get a custom tune. Whether it is a Cobb AP Pro tune or an EcuTek tune, that's up to you. The off-the-shelf maps certainly won't be made for your modifications.

On the other hand, both EcuFlash and Cobb AP's Race Tuning will allow you to do it yourself if you are so inclined.

Custom tune via the AP.

I just dont see Ecutek as a very good option anymore considering the other alternatives on the market.

but seems like many tuners and cars with "high" hp (500+) do not use AP?

is there something missing in AP?

can AP be use with meth or cams with different lift?

Can AP raise rev limiter and 2-step launch rmp like ecutek?

thanks guys

Well AP hasnt been on the market very long for all the "high" HP cars to even try it out.

Cobb AP no question. I believe the Ecutek will soon become a distant option to the AP as it is in the Subaru community.

Yes and yes. Those are basic modifications.

I am both an Ecutek and Cobb dealer. Tuned both, and the Ecutek is a very good product.
Perhaps not the best for people who want to mess with the tune themselves, but very good. Gets the jo b done, Ecutek is also a very reputable company and support their software and tuner network very well.

I don't have an Ecutek tune nor am I considering one.

But I was just curious, are there any details about what's bad with Ecutek? "It sucks", "Dont see Ecutek as a very good option anymore" and, "Distant option" don't really tell us much of anything. I've seen some good dyno results from some respected tuners that use Ecutek. So, I'm not trying to start a fight, just trying to get at some objectivity around the tuning options we have for an EVO X.

Ecutek was the first option available to X owners who wanted a quick tune. You showed up at your tuner, paid them the tuning fee plus the ECUTek license fee and you got your tune. If you modded the car in the future and you wanted a new tune, you had to go back to them and pay them a fee for a new map..

Other options are now available though...

AP changed the game as you can sit at home and upload off the shelf maps from the internet and put them right into your car as many times as you want as you update your car with new mods or want a new tune. Plus you can monitor and log the car with it and do a few other nifty tricks for an MSRP of 695.

Once ECUFlash comes out (in beta right now, but coming SOON) you will be able to download the program totally free of charge and tune your car. The only out of pocket cost if you dont know someone with a tactrix cable already is to buy your own for 160. You can flash your car with opensource tunes all day long as many times as you want.

It's kind of obvious to see how ecutek can be forgotten when these options are available.
