Interesting find yesterday with the AP @ the track

The last time I was at the track was in December and I was untuned. I averaged about 4.5mpg.

Yesterday I was back at the track (albeit a different track -- a much faster track) and I averaged about 5.5-6mpg.

Take that!

I still had the mega smoke screen going!

(from December)

Edit:
Yesterday's Track (Eagles Canyon)

It requires shifting a lot more frequently and I'm on the rev limiter (stock) in 4 places on the track [don't shift though because it's not worth it unless you have the SST).

December's (MSR Cresson, 1.7 CW)

I only shift from 3-4 and then back again once per lap on this track.

Hopefully I'll make a track day before I move this summer. I really want to see how the X compares to my Evo VIII.

I like the smoke screen tactics.

I only datalogged my 2nd out of 5 sessions. My best lap time was 2:12. Apparently that's a respectable time for street tires for a relative newbie (my instructor said he runs 2:08 at his fastest in his rx8 on street tires). I bet I shaved a couple seconds off that in later sessions as the track warmed up and I got a little more familiar with the track.

Damn. Track days in the middle of winter? I would need a plow truck around here to get around the track.

How many tanks of gas did you use this time? I used 2.5 tanks on my last track day with a stock X. Average was 57 miles per tank.

I filled up before we got there then 18 gallons at the track and was around 1/2 a tank left when I left the track (so likely another 6-7 gallons or so).

It was cold and windy but had been 80* middle of last week.

MSR-Cresson is a fun track. I haven't been up there in about a year. However, I'll be back there at the end of March instructing for the BMWCCA DE event/club race.

Wish I could bring my X...

There are a couple of people signed up for that DE (KevinD and denver I think). I'll be autocrossing, so I won't be there.

Come to the Mega meet in May at HHR! (see the south forum!)
