So whos afraid to get a tune?
Earlier there was a couple posts from one forum member. He felt I was talking down to him, I felt he was talking down to me, so I removed both sides of posts on the topic.
He was mentioning that the dealerships can see flash count and stamp in the ECU log.
While this is true, there are zero recorded warranty denials due to checksum alone in these forums.
I believe posts like that create panic. There is no need to even approach this issue until there comes a day that we see voided warranties due to number of flashes.
He does have a point- Any such modification and discovery of altered ECU signals could void your warranty, all forms of engine management. Modify at your own risk with that information mind.
Nobody is going to flame you for passing on modifications because you want 100% guarantee on your powertrain warranty.

i am. Although the Cobb AP is apparently "undetectable" but who really knows. But then again, Mitsubishi is a pain with the warranty anyway so i might just say screw it and not worry about it.
I know a kid with a evo 8mr that was told his warranty is void due to having a k@n filter becasue he had a tranny leak and the felt that due to more power than stock it overstressed the tranny therfore voiding the warranty? so what next if you witch to amsoill royal purple ore mobil one ep it will void it also due to more hp? that's why I am scared to do a tune on my car.
How many of us will need a tranny replaced with very mild mods? Not very many....and even if you eventually do, it is probably outside of the 36,000 mile coverage anyway!
So I'm not really sure what everyone is worried about? You should be able to tell if the tranny is bad from the start. You should notice it in the first few thousand miles. Once you get past that point and everything feels good, mod away.
The only people that should be worried about breaking the tranny and engine, are the ones who are pretty heavily modded, and they have written off their warranty already.

I have no future plans on ever having my daily driver Evo X dynoed and I'll tell you why.
Back when I had my old 07 WRX and after going to Stage 2 (full TBE), I went and got me a protune. It took 11 pulls on the dyno, mostly to get the MAF scatter corrected from my AEM CAI, and my clutch got glazed a little...took a week for it to get back to normal.

With that said, I'm currently at Stage 1 with a drop-in air filter and CBE using the Cobb AccessPort w/Perrin tune and I'm totally satisfied. Maybe someday I'll go Stage 2 or 3 if I ever deceide to replace the DP and FMIC, but even if I do, I'll just use an off the shelf Stage 2/3 map and be done with it. With all the people on this site alone getting their Evo dynoed after installing the same sort of mod's over and over, why bother? The readings are all relative anyway depending on the type of dyno / temp that day / altitude, ect. For most it's just bragging rights, and this way my clutch will last that much longer.
The big thing for me currently is to shave as much weight off my Evo as possible...while keeping it a livable DD. Just replacing the CBE and battery (as well as a couple other little things), I've shaved off about 40 lbs of unsprung weight without touching the spare tire or jack. My next endeavor will be lighter wheels and brake rotors...that alone will be 26 lbs or rotational weight gone...even better!

I've looked everywhere, went to many Evo X forums just to find out if the ECU records the flash count or checksum. I can't find any good answers. Some says yes, some says no.
From what I read in the Subaru forums, if you flash the ecu and go back to stock the dealership knows. Their ecu modify something and records it.
I'm afraid because of warranty and I don't trust anyone around here to tune my car, lol. Granted I don't know many shops around here that can tune an Evo. When I was in the Honda scene, there were so many tuner shops that thought they knew how tune just because they have a civic hatch with a b16 swap. Unless you were cool with someone at the shop, they would give you a half *** tune.
