Nice. Im all about the stealth look, and quiet sound as well. I get enough attention babying my evo from cops, and dumb individuals who want to street race as is. I'm going with the cosworth filter, boost pill, and tune think thats about it. Wish there was more performance mods to keep the stock look and sound =(

The T1R full TBE exhaust is relatively quiet. Check out the vids on YouTube. The guys who have it say it sounds identical to stock at idle. Mildly louder (lower rumble vs. hornet's nest sound of stock exhaust) when accelerating and some say it is actually quieter when cruising on the freeway.

If you keep the stock cat or add a hi-flow cat, the exhaust would be even quieter than the sound you hear in the videos.

IMO dont buy the exhaust cut out, you will regret the purchase. For the 2 hp you gain from the open exhaust and the extra 5lb gain with the cut out its not worth it. In a couple years you have a lot of carbon build up on the undercarage of your car especially if you dont get the right tune. It will look like crap. I know a few people with open dump exhaust, and it looks like there car been through the WWII battle grounds. IMO open exhaust sounds like crap. Yes, it would be cool to have, but in a year it just gets old and stupid. And its a 4 cylinder, your not scaring any one, cause the V8 sound ALOT louder than you.

If you really want the "extra" 2 hp when your racing, built a race pipe, so you can just swap out the muffler for a straight pipe. At least you dont get a massive carbon build up on your car. and it would be cheaper.

IMO, if you want to be quiet get, AMS Down pipe, and a test pipe and stick with the stock catback exhaust. With the test pipe and stock catback exhaust, the car sound about the same as stock. The stock muffler really keeps the noise down. This is what i am doing, AMS Downpipe and T1R test pipe.
Or you can get a aftermarket catback that has a resonator and a downpipe and stick with the stock cat.

For other mods, get a tune (AP or EcuFlash) make your can run better, Drop in filter (Perrin or K&N) clean looks and no idle problems, intercooler pipeing (they are all the same) and/or intercooler (look for cast endtanks).

I agree with the last post.
Another issue with these cutouts is you cannot even begin to hear audible detonation if you were to get it for some reason. They are crazy loud at WOT and drown out everything else.

a test pipe makes the car MUCH louder in the car. The difference between the stock cat and a high flow cat is like this |-----|. The difference between a high flow cat and a test pipe is like this |------------------------|

Like loud enough to be very annoying and make the wife not pleased to be in the car.

If you're getting a test pipe, get a resonated one (ultimate racing).

I have a resonated test pipe, and the only difference between it and stock is the turbo spool you can hear a little bit more. Thats with the stock silencer anyway.

Yeah, I have an aftermarket cat-back. The stock cat-back is still crazy quiet with the DP and resonated test pipe. The stocker only cost me 9whp; I often consider going back.

thanks for that info . it definitely made me rethink what route i wanted to go on mods..i was gonna go with a quiet catback like hks legamax then an open dump o2 dp but after reading this i think i'm gonna stick with a closed one.

is it worth to get this ->
or will a regular drop in filter work just as good?

FMIC are they worth the 500+ dollars ? looks like 5-7hp gain?

im looking to get the car at quarter mile around 12.2X am I going to have to
get an exhaust system since you guys talked me out of this ->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O9uX...layer_embedded

finally If i keep the exhaust stock does a downpipe make the exhaust a lot louder ?
worth installing for the hp gain?

I'd just go with a drop in filter IMO... Cosworth or works.

Save up and get yourself a catback setup from RRE. Ask for the stealth type.

As for intake, just get yourself a drop in filter (cosworth or k&n). I would also suggest replacing your uicp + tune from HB or other reputable tuner shop.

*91oct* Made 352.1tq and 335.6hp w/ the mods listed below.

RRE UICP - $200
RRE Stealth - $530-$730 depending on type
Drop in Filter - $45 - $55
Custom Tune - $400 HB Speed

Total price range $1100 - $1400

You will still have some extra cash for other mods. I would suggest getting Cobb Accessport with the left over funds or maybe Hi flow cat.
