Dyno's hp numbers, how much is a lot?
Dyno's hp numbers, how much is a lot?
This is for the noobs.... actually it's for me too lol, but i'll blame it on the noobs. Anyway here is the question, which maybe would be a benefit to others as well.
I see a lot of hp numbers that people rave over that don't seem to be that high to some, but others who people don't seem as excited over. I know it depends on the type of dyno used but how much is a lot?
I've seen people say the stock WHP numbers for the X from 220-240 or so. Obviously octane makes a difference, so if a car in Cali makes 280-300 whp with their "pump ****" as they call it, it's a bigger deal than a car here in Md that has 93 octane.
Sooooooo with all of my words that have probably made no sense at all... how much is a lot? Let's say we have 300 whp... what sort of 0-60 and 1/4 times would that amount to? Approximately of course. Please give me some education here lol.

Don't get fixated on Dyno HP figures ... they all read differently ... even dyno's of the same type can read differently. Not to mention the ambient temperature and humidity also play a huge factor. Unless both cars you're comparing were done on the same dyno, at relatively the same time .... the figures really don't mean all that much. The true test is taking it to the track but even then you have factors such as temp&humidity and driver skill to deal with.
Numbers from a dyno mean absolutely nothing. Take your car to three differnet dynos and you will get three different numbers. What you SHOULD care about are the gains between a baseline dyno run and a tuned dyno run on the same dyno and the same day.
Masturbating to dyno numbers is really getting old.

as far as 91 **** is concerned, we seem to be around 30-40whp less than those on 93. although the higher you go the more that seems to vary.
however, dynos do make a difference. so its kind of a hard thing to compare...
on a dynapack in ca people seem to but down 240-255 stock. (which is on par with vdr on evom correction settings)
add in all piping (ic/intake/exhaust) without a tune and we are seeing around 300whp (also on par with vdr evom correction setting)
tune that combo and we are running around 320-330, which in comparison is east coast 350-360whp
cams seem to bring us around 350-360whp
fp red and 800cc injectors seems to get us in the neighborhood of 370-380 (again, east coast is like 420-440whp)
and it takes 1000cc and meth for us to get over the 400whp mark. dont know what that would relate to on the east since i dont think ive seen it, but id imagine around 480-500.

ok, for instance... since I am on the east coast I am in the 245-255 whp level... and I am using an AP flashed with AP's stage 1 map. I have seen some 30-40 whp with just that flash. That would put me 275-285 whp... so why would people get so hyped over 300? What am I missing here?
