Service Engine Soon Light

I have a stock evo x. It has a drop in K&N air filter.

Today I start it up, and the service engine light turns on. I have had this happen before: The reflashes, a bad MAF.

The car seemed to be running fine. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it, and it has stayed off so far...

Has anyone else had this happen, and disconnecting the battery fix it? Maybe the computer just needed a kick in the butt?

Thanks,

Isaac

resetting the ecu will clear the code. you should have pulled the code so you know what code you are throwing. make sure your gas cap is closed all the way.

^I'm running the UR TP and haven't had the SES light come on for that issue...but it has been popping up P0171(system too lean)....even with the reflash.

I got it back from the dealer after the light went on again, and the code is P1320. They didnt really say what caused it, only that they would flash it with the newest software (which it had), and see how it goes.

Bah!!!

Unless I am mistaken that is a timing retard insufficient. It can be any number of things from a bad batch of gas to funky a/f ratios. I have heard around here that there is a reflash Mitsu can do that corrects it if it is indeed an issue with the car which it most likely is because this has been happing to more and more people. I have it myself and am going in next Friday to have them look.

you couldve had AutoZone read the code and find out what it was :-/

They reflashed it with the same flash it had before. So I guess they dont really know what caused the SES light to come on.

Disconnecting the battery doesn't truly reset the ECU, the code is still there. You would need to pull the code and erase it to get rid of it.

How long ago did you replace the stocl filter with the K&N? It could be the oil from the filter causing you to through a code for the maf.

I know the OP is in NM, but for CA guys, Autozone no longer lends scanners for free in California.

I thought so too, but actually the manual refers to them as the same thing. See page 1 in quick index section of the manual.

The other indicator (pic of a wrench) includes the text "Periodic Inspection" and is referred to as the "Service Reminder" (manual pg. 3-154)

Happened to me also around same milleage. Check engine light came on and idle stood at 2500rpms. Went to the dealership and they replaced the MAF. No mods when problem occured.
