What can you do with the Cobb AP?

What can you do with the Cobb AP? I have read some threads that mention using it to flash using different maps. I am not entirely sure what this means.

Can you get these maps from somewhere and "download" them to the ecu for tuning? The ad for the AP says you can only use with the stock intake, so I don't know what to think.

Is there a better program for flashing the ecu?

Yes, say you have a stock intake and us the stock intake OTS(Off The Shelf) Map, then you go and buy a AEM intake, you can download a OTS map for that intake.

With the AP coupled with AccessTuner Race, you can pretty much do anything regarding ECU tuning. If you don't know much or anything at all about tuning the car, you can download staged maps to work with your mods and flash those to your ECU, or you can have a tuner create a custom map while datalogging your car. If you like to do your own tuning and know how to read and modify the tables, you can use ATR to create your own custom tune specifically to your car and mods.

Also, you can have several different maps loaded into the AP and you can flash any map onto the ECU whenever you want.

Only one issue, if you have a 2010 Evo X, their is no compatible AP. Apparently, it's to be out soon.

Your best bet is to have the ECU directly reflashed by a Pro tuner.

to the OP.. I love my AP and have really found it handy. Had Mellontuning do a custom map for me by data logging and adjusting everything and the car feels like even more of a beast than it did.

So far I have used the AP to reflash and datalog some and really like it. The biggest advantage to me was being able to quickly switch maps or reflash to stock for those trips to the dealer - plan to wait at least the first 15K before blatantly voiding the warranty. I have no tuning experience, so haven't tried any of the custom map features. I bought the AP from Perrin and got their stage 1 map included in addition to the Cobb base maps. My plans are to use the staged off the shelf maps until I get to wanting more than I can get from them, then go to a pro tuner that supports the AP. I think it all depends on how far you want to go, how much tuning knowledge you have, and what you want to spend. The data logging capability is pretty basic and not expandable, so I plan to add Evoscan in the near future.
