Cobb AP or Mellon Tune

I can't decide which to get.

The Cobb has many different maps, so I could end up with a tune after each part that I upgrade. Where as with Mellon, I would have wait and then get an awesome tune.

No mods yet. I'm making a wish list. It's just that our cars come with such a crap tune stock.

100% agree with the crappy stock tune. Car runs way to rich. Are there any local tuners around you? I wouldnt go for the cobb until you have some mods done to the car. Mellon will do a great job either way. A stock tune will open you evo up so much more. It will feel like a totally different animal.

you can always do a subscription with mellon. its a 3 month service. tune it now and then tune it again within the 3 months. not a bad deal!

I have the AP and went with Mellon tuned through it... so I got the best of both worlds lol. Although now I have an exhaust and some other stuff and need a retune.

It appears you can have both, an AccessPORT and a tune from a respected tuner! There are great gains to be had with just a tune. Get engine management first, turn the wick up a little bit and then you can always retune the car with our OTS maps, or an E-Tune or even custom tune from a respected tuner when the time/budget comes.

I recommend the Mellon Tune because it's custom tailored to fit your mods/boost/octane based on the logs you send us. We don't sell canned tunes because every car responds a little differently and some quite a bit differently. We have options available for purchasing multiple tunes at a discount and each will be custom.

The Cobb devices do have multiple tunes available for download but they are generic ones that are made to work on everyone's car with the same mods. We have done some custom tunes for customers with the Cobb and that's a great option especially if you already have the access port and want a much better tune than the off the shelf ones they provide. The problem is it gets expensive to buy the device and then buy a custom tune. You may come out cheaper with a netbook, ecuflash, evoscan and tactrix cable and then you're able to be tuned by far more shops since it's the standard for tuning EVOs.

please try again, sometimes people make a typo in their email address within the form and I have no way of reaching them because they also failed to mention their forum username. I can also be reached by PM here

I say get the cobb AP for now, load up an OTS map... get some mods on your car then take it to mellon to make a custom map for your accessport!

This is the same route I've taken and cobb stage 2 has satisfied me for the time being! Come spring I'll be dropping in a new turbo and having a custom tune done on my AP!!!
