E-85 vs Race Gas (109/110)

I have a few E-85 pumps in my area and was thinking about switching to it. But at the same time I could just switch between my maps if I was going to the track and going to a drag strip. Will that cause too much stress on the car? I would only run either one once or twice on the weekend. So I wasnt sure if I should just go full E-85 or just switch between 93 oct and what ever else I decide to do.

Race gas is alot more expensive but seems stays the same oct rating and is almost as easy to get around me as E-85. I figure with the MPG loss I can just use thet 93 oct tune for my Daily Driving....

Thoughts?!?!?!

Thanks

I'd use e85 (and will be again as soon as my HFC gets here). Its the benefits of race gas 100% of the time, plus a cleaner engine. For the amount that you can save on paying for alot of race gas over the summer you could probably easily buy some cheap netbook to switch maps if you needed to... or just wait for tephra's map switch.

As long as you can supply enough of it, it is the fuel of the gods. There are plenty of threads on how awesome it is.

If you don't already have injectors and fuel pump for e85, and you don't care to have that extra power all the time, I'd just stick with pump gas. Then you can just add race gas when you hit the drag strip and switch maps. It also won't hurt to switch back to your 93 octane map while you still have some leftover race gas mix in the car. If you already have the fuel upgrades for e85, then I'd seriously consider it. The only downside is that depending on where you are, you may have to plan any road trips very carefully to make sure you can refill on more e85. That aspect of e85 can be a pain.

in order to get any benefit, you'd obviously need tuned for it. And the amount you put in your tank will vary the octane rating in theory by quite a bit, so you'll have to be very careful with it.

Plus at 2-3x the cost of E85 for race gas...

Yeah Ive read a ton on E-85 and almost switched on my Evo 8 but I got in an accident and that ruined my plans.

But I want more power and Mon-Thurs it makes 0 difference to me as far as power. I rather have MPG. The race gas pumps are about as common as E-85 is around here. With the winter mixes in Michigan Im sure Id have to get retuned. My set up is primarily based of gasoline 800cc DW injectors and a Walbro 255 to support my FP Green. So it seems I would need to upgrade my fuel system again to make the switch to E-85.

Isn't it a bigger pain to make sure that your tank is empty every time you fill up with race gas? If you are tuned for race gas and are running a 75% race gas / 93 mix, you could damage your engine.

I'm much rather worry about swapping fuels when I can't find an E-85 station than having to do it every weekend.

Sounds like a proper meth setup (with a failsafe and a ~500cc jet) might be perfect for your requirements.

I thought running with a tiny bit of race gas would be ok? Easier to just add 93 then to try be completely empty and fill up e85 right?

Id do meth but to be honest ive read on it and cant 100% get it so I dont feel safe running it.

Can you be more specific? It certainly would make your life easier when you have days where you want more power and also you wouldn't have to worry about securing an E85 pump (which is why I'm on gas).

meth isn't allowed at some tracks...

and 100% of the people I know with meth have, or are planning to, moved to E85.
