Did you do the 2nd flash (in Normal mode - NOT RECOVERY)?

yes i did.

i did the recovery, then i unticked the box, and used the optional 91 & 90 pins to do the normal flash (on the bench). it worked fine.

the problem on the car is pin 82 has no power when the ecu is pluged and the ign switch on.

i tried the ECU on another car and the fans went crazy (always on).
i tried anther ECU on the car, the fans were ok, but the message (SYSTEM ERROR) appera on the dash.

i suspect that the ECU has some broken circuit related to pin 82.

but again i dont know?

hrmm that sux...

well it sounds like your logic is right...

i guess you will have to order a new ECU and get a dealer to program it up for you...

not really...

the new ECU will require programming (more than just the ROM)

You can try and repair your current ECU, it might just be a burnt out component...

no way you can do it without the dealer. same case happened to me couple of weeks back.

but in my case all wires were hooked up properly np's at all no short circuit.

dealer replaced under warranty with a new ecu and took both original keys to reprogram the immobiliser.

new ecu came with new rom id too.

what i can tell from experience is that it was a bad rom that i was reflashing back in and it screwed everything up. make sure you get a virgin or clean rom before flashing even with a new ecu cos i had to re-bench it again and it worked this time round.

be very careful not to fry anything during the process.

ah ha fbikawi i see that you're located in AD. pm me if u need any help.

hey teph how r u ?

E6-X,

do you think i can program a used Evo X ecu? is that theoritically possible?

the dealer will not replace under warranty. the dealer quoted 890 US$ for a new ecu.

i managed to find a used ECU for 200 $.

yes, i own a tuning shop with Dyno Facility in abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
i have tuned more than 20 evo x in the past and had no such failure before. i even successfully recovered two ecus for another tuner in Dubai ????

as long as the part number matches then just take that ECU to the dealer and get them to "Reinstate" that ECU..

they will probably charge you for doing that thou...

dealer must be in dxb eh ? lol. sorry to hear that thou.

yea if not mistaken and if part no is same you shud be able to use the ecu & flash a virgin rom in. but i'd assume they're all the same but with diff roms loaded in depending on the region.

but like teph said, no mater what u will have to reinstate the ecu (through the dealer) or else you won't even be able to start the car at all.

not sure how much the ecu cost from dxb dealer but ma dealerr over here did mentioned they got it direct from japan. everything was covered under warranty.

now the ride is running healthy and also been benched before too.
i've benched evo x ecu for more than 10 times or so.

do send me a pm if u need any help & maybe someday i could jump on yr dyno

off topic, teph, could u pop yr hood open & have a look into yr fusebox and best if u could post a pic up. over here the evo x's does not come with a fuel pump relay !

actually, the car is GCC spec and the ECU part No. ends with 81. the used ECU is USDM spec and part No. ends with 79.

i doubt that there is any hardware difference, between different markets. it is only roms maybe.

I thought that pin82 never had power on it when you check it in the car.. I checked it once a long time ago, it is something to do with ETACS.. etacs tells the pin82 to light up with power. but firstly the Main ecu has to communicate with ETACs, and if you main ecu still has a corrupt rom in it, then it can't tell ETACS to turn the main relay on.

so to me, it sounds like you are flashing a corrupt rom to the ecu all the time. can you get the stock rom and try again? or grab a friends op2 and reflash a known good rom into the ecu.

can you reflash the ecu whilst its in the car? just leave it in the car and reflash it.

possible solution#2 you bent a ecu pin when putting it back.. yes, easy to do, because I did it once took Matt and I a few days to figure it out on his EvoX.

I'll try and get you guys a new recovery mode reflash that doesn't require removing it from the car, sounds like removing it is a little too dodgy and time consuming... Matt you up for another recovery mode session to help these guys out?

looking at the evoX pinouts I put on the evoscan website:

http://www.evoscan.com/technical-veh...x-efi-ecu-pins

Pin 82 Power Supply (comes from MFI Relay via 20A Fuse #22) MFI Relay switched on by ecu (via pin 73)

so you have to get the ecu to boot up correctly, talk to etacs ecu, then before it will fire the pin73 which turns the relay on, which then powers up pin82.

so if you haven't fixed your corrupt rom reflash yet, then you will never get the ecu to boot up correctly, and therefore you will never get the relay fired up, nor pin82 fired up with power.

Tephra, have you documented the startup boot procedure for the EvoX efi ecu software? or would that require a 100 page book to explain

"Bricked" my ECU when my computer decided to blue screen on me during a write. Followed the steps exactly and successfully recovered! Thanks for saving me $1,100 on a new ECU.

I did connect the optional pins so I could non-ALT Flash directly on the bench to make sure it worked before putting it in my car.

Things that didn't work for me before i did the bench ALT-Flash:
-2nd attempt on writing after the crash.
-reading the ECU
-the Exit Write Mode option in ECU Flash
-tried the ALT-Flash option with the ECU in the car
-disconnecting the battery
-doing that 10s wait with the key in the ignition before turning it to on

U can do without dealer if u have the skills. If a PROM has been programmed and has an error or needs updated the chip is discarded and a new PROM is created and replaces the old chip. A variation of the PROM is an EPROM, which is a PROM that can be erased and reporgrammed without being replaced.Just use the same oem ecu.
