Should I sell my Cobb AP?

Im getting tuned by Ivey on the 23rd of September... should I just sell my Cobb AP and have him tune me via open source? I could use the money I get for the AP and put it towards an o2 downpipe or maybe something else. Then again can you do pretty much everything you can do on an AP with ECU Flash? Im mainly concerned about being able to log data and monitor it as well. Please help me decide, time is running out!

If you're getting tuned then yes, sell the AP. Get a cheap laptop off craigslist, a tactrix cable (used in these classifieds for around $80), and EvoScan ($30) and you can do way more than you can with the AP. With EvoScan you can log and monitor your car, your buddies, etc at no cost at that point. And EcuFlash will be just fine. You can prob get half of what you paid for the AP by selling it, so that should make a dent in the tuning cost.

It would be the other way around, accessport can't do everything that ECUflash can do.

Dump the AP for sure.

I'm really considering staying out of all "hot topics" that cause debate from now on.

But for now..... another +1 for selling the AP.

Haha migs!

I would say keep it and just save your new map to it, although i do not have experience with the alternative, but many serious tuners seem to like the tactixcable or whatever.

It shouldn't be a debate even, lol...look at the 8/9 guys they all know the truth, if you ask any of them if they would use a cobb expect a similar answer to what any of the X ECUFlash users say.

There just isn't a compelling reason to buy an AP in my mind and most people that tune X's and most that mod their cars would agree...AP's marketplace is shrinking fast.

As long as Cobb continues to add features and support, i will keep mine. I am not a serious tracker or anything so i don't need to squeeze out that last couple hp, or whatever and i feel safer for some reason with the ap over doing the tuning myself.

The AccessPORT will be able to support your car and your tune all the way from basic bolt ons to big turbo applications so you should not feel the need to get rid of one tuning platform for another for the simple sake of needing a better solution to tune your vehicle. While both methods offer different advantages and sometimes a differing approach to tuning, the bottom line is that you are using the stock ECU to tune your car.

The guys at Ivey are great tuners and I have seen nothing but satisfied customers. I might be biased, but I vote to keep the AccessPORT to tune your car and you will love having the extra features to help keep tabs on your car as your continue to mod.

Do you have hard numbers to back up your "most people" supposition?

I apreciate your input. this situation isnt really about witch is better, its really about if the AP is worth keeping if i can get 400 for it and spend a fraction of that for basicly the same thing (ecuflash tech or w.e its called)

If you honestly don't believe it, which most AP fan bois don't, just make a poll in the 8/9 section of AP vs. ECUflash, see which wins.

I see maybe 1 out of 10 customers being tuned on AP vs Ecuflash, on the Evo 10 / RA.

On Evo 8/9, I tuned about 6 total the whole time it was out. Out of those 6, maybe 2 are still on it.

One bit of data. That's just the norcal region.

I know Jon@HBspeed does a bit more, but since he is now COBB socal, I can see why.

From a customers perspective, it's really hard to compete with just paying a tuning fee compared to paying a tuning fee *AND* an additional $500 for a blinky screen piece of hardware.

From a tuners perspective, well, I don't really need to go there with the above already typed out.
