My advise on the z chip is to throw it in the trash. For real.

you mean Scott @ TTP.

dunno what happened to him, but I was just talking to another guy about this same question. That Z-chip always seemed like it was too good to be true. Anyone care to share the REAL story behind it and their advertised gains?

A couple years agoI dyno'd with one and made 333whp on ttps mustang dyno, then went to a dynojet and made 260 then removed the zchip and made 250... Those are facts and I am not trying to bash anyone. I believe I have the dyno charts somewhere. Oh and I forgot to add. After all that, jestr tuned my car and I couldn't have been happier.

i was the one that brought up in a regional thread. the zchip was one of the first things offered for the X and came before the cobb AP and before (at least in my area) many tuners were doing much tuning on the X's. i'm glad i didn't make the mistake of buying one for myself though.

TTP jammed it down the throats of forums and managed to have a daily back and forth argument with the people at cobb about how the zchip reigned supreme. i wonder if one could be found on ebay along with an original rubix cube.

you should sell it on ebay and see if you get bites on it.

in a day of fully tuneabe ecu's, 3 port, 3-4 bars and a wide aftermarket of bolt-ons the zchip is obsolete. it's probably safe to say that it was DOA given that a few months later the market really opened up for modding X's

Did you have a V1 or V2 chip? I read that the V2 firmware was a free upgrade and was a nice improvement in performance over the first batch. I would guess that you never upgraded your chip to the latest firmware.

There are a few guys here in Deltona that got them and they all seem to be happy with their results. I drove in Evil_Evo_X's car and it definitely was a big improvement over stock. Its easy to knock it now, but back when it came out a few years ago, reflashing really wasnt available. Technology is always evolving. We see it in aircooled ceramic ball bearing turbos from PTE, speed density on factory ecus, tephramods for the X recently released. Everything has a place in time.
