e85 and a walbro 255??? Problems???
Edited to clear up any confusion and misinformation-
From what I've heard, most people tend to prefer the stock fuel filters for the 8/9 but I guess it's different for the Xs.

The stock fuel filter on the evo X will break down in e85 and wind up clogging your injectors. The filter on the walboro is fine in e85, but it can get clogged with other junk from your fuel system if you have alot of miles (or some other reason to have alot of junk in there). I didn't experience any problem with >30k Mi on my IX. The blaqops kit comes with the adapter you need to put the pump in the pump housing (you can zip tie it but that is sketchy... this is cheap insurance). It also comes with a new fuel line to the fuel rail that includes another filter to help keep things clean. Lastly, it includes a alt-fuel safe replacement for the 1 hose in the fuel pump housing that can begin to break down over time when using e85.
I believe MAP also has a metal adapter to mount the pump, but it doesn't come with the rest of the pieces. There is a walkthrough on how to create this kit yourself but buying the parts pre-assembled from blaq ops was worth the minor difference in cost to me.
I guess I don't understand how buying a 255 now and a 340 later is cheaper than just buying a 340 now... the cheapest and most efficient way to mod a car is to make a plan and only buy parts that fit in that plan. If that's the way you want to do it I won't stop you.
The X pump is surprisingly capable for pump gas... but the 2 parts that break down are the weak links.
fostytou,
I'm pretty sure he was referring to the OEM evo 8/9 fuel sock, which works just fine in E85. It's the cotton based aftermarket style ones you have to worry about.
It also happens to be the one that blaqops supplies with their kit (oem Evo 8/9)

WRONG.

I think he wants to use the Walbro right now because he already has it and doesn't want to purchase another pump right now.
Thanks for backing me up Razorlab. And to the OP, sorry for the confusion.
Sorry, I forgot we were talking about a X here and I didn't realize the philosophy might be different. One of the Evo shops in the Chicago area told me they prefer to use the stock filters for the 8/9s rather than aftermarket.

Alright well i didnt mean for this to become and e-war but ive decide to just go with the bushur racing double pumper and a cobb so i can change maps (e-85 map and 93 pump map) during the fuel changes in winter with the weaker e-85.
What else do i have to replace so i dont run into any problems. Is the inline fuel filter gonna need a change or can i leave it stock for awhile since i will only be running e-85 for a couple of months since im sure the fuel will change in oct. or nov.?????
Again thanks for everyones help, im sure alot of people will find this to be useful information.

I tried to type this earlier from my phone but it kept screwing up.
Here is what the stock evo X fuel sock looks like on E85 after 6 months.

Also just an FYI, the thing pictured is not a filter but it does break down in E85 as you can see. That is simply the fuel pickup sock. The actual X filter is contained in the stock fuel pump so if you put a 255 in the system you have removed the fuel filter. This is why the blaqops kit comes with the jegs filter to put inline in the engine bay. Also blaqops does use the 8/9 sock on their kits too.
just some food for thought. If you use a 255 get an aftermarket E85 safe fuel filter for your system. A side note I did run my X without a filter for months but I wouldn't recommend it.

The kit worked great for the 6 months I used it

That doesnt look very healthy....lol but this is good to no!! Correct me if im wrong but has blaqops quit making there double pumper? Cause thats the company i origanlly wanted to go with....Or does the Bushur do the same thing with replacing a new filter for you???
FYI here is the good ol' AMS pump test: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/4345625-post83.html
I wish the Aeromotive was on there.
------
EDIT: One thing I'm not sure we pointed out before is that at ~73 psi (30psi of boost plust base fuel pressure) the walboro in-tank is flowing more like 220LPH or ~916cc ((220 / 240) / 1000) or ((LPH / minutes x # injectors) / L->CC) worth of injector. There is generally a 10% headroom that you want to keep so this should still be OK with a 1000cc injector. I guess the 340LPH would only support ~1220cc injectors if it's flow vs pressure curve is linear with that of the Walboro (though I don't think it is).

Well another question arose and that is with the mods i have plus the gsc s2 cams and there valve train will i be pushing the block past its limit if i use e-85. I have seen that stock blocks start to have issues around 400 trq and im sure i will be very close to that number or over it. What are your opinons is e-85 not a good idea for me right now or will i still be okay.
I also thought that maybe i will just have my tuner make my map safe enought but still powerful enough so that i dont abuse the engine to badly lol.
BTW if i could get the most input on this last question here that would be awesome cause i plan on buying bucshur's double pumper on monday. unless there open on saturday which i doubt they are.
