Need advice on tuning!

So I picked up a new 2014 evo x, and I want to begin tuning it at as soon as it breaks in.

I need advice from those that have experience in tuning, is it better to go for open source tuning? or should i just stick with the cobb? I live in chicago and AMS is not too far.

Shoot me some tips and and what you guys recommend.

MR or GSR?
Cobb has a good reputation but their 2014 MR maps have been iffy, so I've heard

Open source is fine but for an MR and e-tune, but do your research on tuners.

i would say get some bolt ons first then pay ams to get a tune! If your not really wanting to buy any bolt ons just go with the cobb tuner. I feel paying for a tune from AMS with a stock evo would be kind of a waste of money. But even just the cobb tuner makes the car feel so much better! I have a 2011 GSR and it made a pretty big difference with just the cobb tuner.

Just use open source. Honestly if you're thinking about using AMS just call them and go with whatever they recommend

Another thing to consider is, maybe you might want to wait. I think your warrantee will expire as soon as you do any mods. If it was me I would keep it stock until the warrantee is up....but that's just me

Both OS and Cobb will allow for dual maps for E85/Gas. For me the choice came down to using the AP as a multigauge versus running multiple gauges in the car and logging with a laptop versus the AP. Other than that there are a few more features available through OS like no-lift-shift that haven't yet trickled down to Cobb, but in time they will. There really isn't a bad choice here for the GSR, so go with whichever you prefer.

Don't know if I can wait that long ! I'm just finishing a break in, and anxious to get started.

When you say cobb, are you just planning to use their OTS maps? If it is then it's not worth it. Also depends on the tuner, some tuners prefer open source as they have wide options for tuning your car.
I would say get the open source and get real gauges. Btw, you can't use the Ap v3 just for gauges without installing the cobb maps or any other maps that's downloaded on your ap.
Good luck!

Get your mods, install, then have ams tune the car. Will be way better than COBB. Just my suggestion.

Cobb is good for mildly modified cars or if you plan to do the exact bolt ons they have maps for. In my opinion Open Source is better for highly modified cars or SST cars.
