Tuning needed for Mileage?

Just curious what options there are for getting increased mileage without sacrificing or perhaps increasing performance of a stock GSR?

I have a relatively new 3200 mi GSR, and recently installed a Cobb drop in and expected to perhaps see a mile or 2 a gallon more but have actually not seen anything.

I get about 22.5 mpg after a 52 mile commute. If I am very gentle on the throttle in town before the highway, I can top out at 23. Just surprised given all my previous cars including a turbo Saab, and 5.0L Mustang GT got a more MPG than rated. There is no gravy with this.

I understand if I get a tune for some higher HP, that I will also see some economy. I will do this eventually. Still stewing on the fact that I would be probably killing my warrantee.

Thanks,
Kevin

yes tuning would increase your mpg's since it wont run so rich and are very safe but no point in voiding warranty over a couple mpg's in my opinon.

Yea, I was a bit unclear. I am not considering tuning for mpg.

I have been looking at that specifically for the HP, and pleasure in that. I miss the sheer HP I had with the GT, but love the handling of the Evo.

If I get a few more mpg as a side benefit, all the better.

Thanks,
Kevin

A tune would definitely increase your mileage as your car will be set to run leaner. I believe the stock evo map runs relatively rich. However, for the cost of tuning the to save a 1-2 mpg is not really much of a money saver. I would just tune it for desired performance benefits.
