Maintenance Schedule for Low-Mileage X: Time Vs. Mileage

I've got a very low mileage X and was curious about the time and mileage intervals for the major services. I'm coming up on 15 months of ownership and have covered 1900 miles (425 of that was the day I drove it home from FL...) With the 15 month or 15k service coming up, which is practically no different than an oil change/air filter, it got me to thinking about the 30 month or 30k service. I expect by the time I reach 30 months I'll have about 6000 miles on the car. I have no problems having the 30k or 30 month service performed but I was wanting to know if all the items on that list are necessary. Changing the belts seem a bit extreme for such low-mileage. What about coolant and the drivetrain fluids? Are those more time or mileage sensitive? I figure the most important would be bleeding the brakes as that is a hydrophillic fluid. BTW, the car is totally stock and only sees highway miles. No cities or twisty roads where I live.... The nearest competent dealership and/or Evo specialist is a 350 mile round trip and I would have these maintenance items performed there. Thoughts and suggestions?

-Mike

You can skip the belt and coolant, but I'd do the drivetrain fluids as recommended.

That's kind of what I was wanting to do. Even with getting the brakes bled, all those fluids being changed is pretty cheap insurance against future headaches.

Have you thought about doing the work yourself?

Yeah I could do it easily. I've got a hydraulic lift and changing drivetrain fluids would be no prob. It's getting the correct diaqueen fluid that I'm worried about. And I won't touch brakes... so I just figured I'd take it and have it done together.

Gotcha, that's obviously your decision! If you do decide to do it yourself, you can order the fluid online from one of our many site vendors.

Manual Transmission Fluid: GL3 75w80 (2.6 qt)
Transfer Case: Mitsubishi LS Oil (1 qt)
Rear Diff (Differential Part): Mitsubish LS Oil (.6 qt)
Rear Diff (Torque Transfer): Diamond ATF SPIII (.6 qt)
Brake/Clutch Fluid: DOT 4 (I'm going with AP Racing)
Coolant: Any Brand Long Life (1.9 gal.)

Any other fluids I'm missing? What's the 7.1 qts of ATF SPIII for the All Wheel Control? I don't see where to change it or if I need to. This all looks really easy to do.

Those are all the fluids I have changed on my car. The 7.1qts i believe is for the AYC system which has the reservoir in the trunk. Also this has to be bled when drained to remove air from the system. This one I would do at the dealer as you need a special tool to do the bleeding.

This is not a scheduled service item; do not touch the hydraulic portion of the ACD/AYC system. You will only need to purchase 1 quart of Diamond ATF SP3 for the rear differential drain/fill portion.
