Who would you recommend for tuning/dyno in SoCal?

I would suggest going to each shop and talking with each tuner and making your own assumptions.
Beside the ones mentioned; RRE & 5150, there is also KTM
oh and with post like these...fanbois are a must!

This thread should really be turned into a poll.
For what it's worth, I have heard only good things about Cobb, Church, RRE, Darden @ Synapse, and Dr. Boost.
I have at least one friend from each of these tuners who has had their maps for more than a year with no issues at all. If there were any, it would be due to oil starvation or lack of maintenance.

Dr. Boost I wouldn't go to.
Rick @ RRE tuned my car and all was fine until we went speed density, and he just couldn't the drivability right on my car, although it was always perfect at WOT; perfectly flat AFR's, and no knock. I drove other Evo's he did on speed density and they all ran perfect, so Idk what the deal was with my car. When Aaron at English tuned my car he even commented that it required some "tricks" to get it to act right. Rick has also tuned several peoples' X's that I know and they all run great.
As far as Cobb goes, a friend had a mazdaspeed3 that they protuned and it came out great. Made like 25whp and 30wtq more than their OTS map.
Church I've never had him tune anything of mine. However, tuning is tuning, an engine is an engine. If you have a full understanding of how engines, ECUs and forced induction work, you can tune anything. Yes, it can take some familiarity with a platform to extract the last 3% of power out of it, but a stock block Evo isn't looking to have the last 3% pulled out of it, its pretty well established the 400wtq is a good safe limit. Otherwise, that's how internals end up on the ground.
Once again, you are exhibiting classic fanboism. Clearly 5150 tunes your car, and it runs great, so he is the only tuner worth going to in the history of tuning, evarrrrrr. Cool story, bro.

evostanman if you want to cast your vote for 5150, great. Please just post it in a constructive manner and cite your reasons for why they are a great tuner.
